It switches between antlers and mandibles each time I look at it.

Good lord, that looks retarded.

I rather like this design, it has a kind of “unearthly” feel that seems appropriate for a race of Fey creatures. Plus I enjoy the detail of King Thorax having “antlers” similar to the mandibles of a stag beetle.

I think the main issue with the Thorax’s ascended form (aside from the excessively gaudy tones and colour combination) is the rather abrupt segmentation of colours in his body parts. Particularly the torso; it looks like he’s wearing a frigging swimsuit. And my brain keeps telling me that he’s got a wing where a tail should be.
 
In comparison, your design looks way sleeker and more natural. Nice work!

I still don’t get made that first design and bother to put it in. Seems kinda pointless now with this transformation being what it leads up to, as well as those other changelings just achieving it in new academy record times..
 
all it makes wonder is why they didn’t stick with that first one, at least for the other changelings, if anything.

Yes she did. But her dedication has given her a massive ego in which she had no problem with boasting about it.
 
Her Changelings may have sided with the ponies, but I think a lot of them still have concern for her. They still have their memories of her raising and training them. All they want now is for her to put away her pride and start life all over. But its gonna take some more time for Chrysalis to let go of her pride.

I don’t actually see her said anything about herself at all. She always talk and think about her subject until the very end. She just tried to be a good ruler and mother to them in her own corrupted way…

If you want my theory, Chrysalis ran away because she wanted to be the one who would lead her Changelings to success and not her enemies. Seeing her own kind side with the ponies has made her not just furious but heartbroken as well.

In the episode. It’s left Thorax become speechless the entry time since he transformed too. Maybe his mind still shock and wonder what he just become?
 
Who know? Maybe the reason Chrysalis run away because she don’t want to become these colorful thing? XD

I would’ve liked white carapace, evangelistic changelings. maybe with a “find friendship” sacred symbol on their chests. Even the design before was actually pretty interesting, a crisper and more clean, more pure form of a changeling, without changing the entire structure. not that this changes the structure much either. but the coloring!…
 
at least it beats Rainbow powers ones..
 
 
but anyway, pet peeve aside, let’s not forget Thorax committed suicide this episode.

My main problem with this design are the colors and a bit of the face, therefore I’m doing a redesign of King Thorax. What do you all think? I have to vectorize it and choose another color palette.

Yes. It seems to me that they have a character designer for new ponies, and one for new non-pony characters. Because the new designs for non-ponies aren’t usually very… appealing. While the guy that designs new ponies seems to clearly be a movie buff because we keep seeing references to classical movies in half of the background ponies we see now.

“Are there antlers on my head?”  
“Yeah. Big ones.”

The colors are too freaking bright and the whole design and concept is fine.  
They should have just left Thorax with the glittery wings, and not reformed the changelings, I feel as though it would have been cooler if Thorax was the only good changeling you know?  
Also this destroys everyones headcanons and\or fanchildren.
