Agreed. Unless she’s around Trixie to bounce her hidden frustrations off of, Starlight is basically Twilight’s slightly sarcastic, diet yes-pony.
I tend to base main-characters qualities by how much they develop and grow, how invested they are, and also, how many unique dynamic relationships they have with the other main characters.
Starlight Glimmer - 1: Dead last, maybe with Spike. Uninvested and skipped development with negative results. Nothing much else to say about her. Pony Twilight Sparkle - 2: A surprisingly low number of dynamic relationships considering all her friends and all her time in the show, basically Spike and Rainbow Dash are the only ones she engages with emotionally. She’s rarely emotionally invested and vulnerable, even admitted that in Moondancer’s episode, and after six seasons she still has her priority as living up to Celestia’s expectations Human Twilight Sparkle - 4: Not bad for one movie so far. Sunset Shimmer, Human Fluttershy, Human Applejack and Dog Spike. She is reserved but quite self motivated and she is very open to other’s feelings when she tries, and lives completely in the moment since she never had a lifelong mentor that she wants to please. Sunset Shimmer - 4+: A fair number despite just movie screentime so far, Human Twilight, Pony Twilight, Human Dash, Human Applejack, and is very responsive to the rest of her friends as well. Extremely vibrant motivations and development, and very involved emotionally in every story with her.
I side with Sunset simply because Starlight has been a giant disappointment as a non-villain and Sunset at least has a temper.
Good Starlight is like diet Twilight Sparkle. I want the real thing.

The person who requested this art prefers the bitchy glimmer, hence the old haircut I guess.
But you’re right, too much glimmer art set post cutie remark uses the old haircut.
Adagio’s voice actress, Kazumi Evans, is the voice of Moondancer also. I’m sure a joke can be made about Rebecca Shoichet as well.
Although I don’t get why artists often use Starlight’s old mane when it’s post-reformation. Might as well have Sunset with her old outfit and higher-saturation hairdo.

This Rivalry will always be a thing, kinda like coke and pepsi.
The’re so similar but they have diehard fanbases. Of course, the original is always superior to it’s “me too!” Competitor. Fuck pepsi.
