Little chart I threw together for fun: the Crystal Prep Shadowbolts, ordered by popularity in terms of the amount of generated fanart.

I still say it should be slightly updated
I think it would mostly be the same even today with the possible exception of Indigo and Sunny switching places. Most people like Lemon based on her design and caricature anyway which is relatively unchanged in her second appearance, she just speaks more. The only thing that would enhance her more in most peoples eyes is if she was given an official casual attire which was really rad. I for one fear she’ll just dress all overly feminine and shit like everyone who isn’t Rainbow Dash and sometimes Sunset.
Well, her legs are stil nice. Even with bending them that way.
At least Sunny is happy that she will beat her friends to become the popular lady of the school, one by one.
Oh wow. Bending her legs like that.
Good for her, for at least Sunny Flare will begin her climb to fabulous popularity!
It’s for the “Dance Magic” special, otherwise Indigo could still have more posts than Sunny.
I completely agree, and some something like this would happen. Also, if they do revive Gargoyles, I’m worried it will be a watered down version that focuses mostly on comedy while having a simplified art style.
Well I don’t mind multi-episode storylines, or long-term storylines which they go back to now and then until it’s final conclusion. I was kind of hoping that if they did a series, the meta-plot would be discovering and learning about the native magic of that world, where it went and why, why it’s coming back, how it’s different from Equestrian magic, and so forth.
I want their to be magic that belongs to the Equestria Girls world, and for it to be quite different from the Equestrian variety, so we’re not just copying Friendship is Magic. Where FiM is mostly inspired by Greek mythology, I’d like Equestria Girls to be inspired by European/Celtic Fae mythology with perhaps some modern “horror” stuff thrown in(Vampires, Werewolves, etc…) Think along the lines of the stuff from Disney’s Gargoyles. Anyone here remember Puc?
Characters like Discord, Chrysalis, Zecora, etc… assuming they ever appear, should remain supernatural beings with a twist on them, and I’d like to see some of the Human characters from G1 appear, like Megan, Hydia and Mr Moochick. Equestrian characters like Princess Twilight should not be cut out of the series, and we should occasionally get episodes with her and other Equestrian characters. Sunset Shimmer still needs to reconcile with Ceclestia and I’m eager to see/hear what Princess Twilight has to say about the EqG world’s magic and technology. Of special interest to me is seeing the Pony counterparts to the Humane 6 experience the EqG world and to hang out with their counterparts. Some characters have not even had lines yet, like Diamond Tiara.
There is just so much they can do with an Equestrian Girls series.
True, you didn’t. I just inferred it as your main point is popularity.
And I do agree with making Equestria Girls a series. If they do, I hope it has an overarching plotline, but you may be correct about it being episodic. Either way, making it a series would allow it to utilize some of the potential it had wasted. I might be expecting too much. Continuity, outside of a few references, is not something this series excels at.
I never said I don’t like popular things.
Not sure about a fifth Equestria Girls, but they did announce three 22 minute Equestria Girls specials. My honest opinion? I think they’re just trying to field-test the possibility of an actual Equestria Girls series. That sounds like something a bunch of executives would want to do. I’m all for a series, though, and I feel Equestria Girls would be better suited to that format. We are 4 movies in and we know so little about the world the characters are living in, and we still don’t know how Sunset Shimmer lives, so an episodic format would give them more opportunities to touch more topics without disrupting any plot that is going on. Time has always been Equestria Girls greatest enemy.
You really don’t like popular things, do you?
As for Faust not wanting villains to return after their defeat, I’m glad that was overturned. Discord has potential. The other villains have potential as well. But no. Most of them are one-and-done and often one-dimensional. The latter probably due to the series being aimed at young kids, which means the villains can’t be complex. Rehabilitation is another thing I’m glad is overturned (even though it is overused).
If there is going to be a fifth Equestria Girls movie, the chances of either the Sirens or Shadowbolts returning may be slim to none. I’m expecting a whole new villainous faction with barebones motivation and almost no backstory that will be defeated easily at the end of the movie. If it is anything different, I will be surprised.
Derpy is completely pointless, but that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t exist. The show would be no different if she wasn’t there. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not attacking the character, and I’m not attacking you or your taste, I’m just saying that Derpy is around because she is popular, not because she serves some important role.
Take Derpy crashing into Twilight in the recent finale for example, her delivering the letter didn’t have to happen, Twilight could have gotten the letter any other way, but they wanted Derpy to be visible, because yay Derpy. Primary antagonists however are necessary to drive the antagonist driven plot.
Ultimately what I’m saying is, characters like Derpy are pointless but popular, so they keep appearing. So why couldn’t popular antagonists re-appear? Discord, Trixie and Chrysalis all re-appeared, and perhaps it wasn’t even necessary, especially with Discord, who was brought back for popularity’s sake. Weather or not writers can use the returning characters well if forced to use them due to executive decisions is another thing entirely, though. Lauren Faust didn’t want any of the villains coming back after their defeat, and she didn’t want any rehabilitations for them, but as soon as she left, Discord came back. Because he was popular.
Derpy is not pointless. She is a great background character. As for the the Sirens and Shadowbolts returning, I hope they do. The last time we saw the Sirens, they were in really bad shape due to losing their singing voices. If this series was anything close to realistic, they would be in huge trouble; starvation and homelessness are two things I can think of. Neither will be canonized; too dark for the tone.
In any case, if either the Sirens or Shadowbolts return, I’ll be surprised. More so if they get actual development instead of being one-dimensional antagonists.
Nah, there is no way the Dazzlings are done. They were exceedingly popular, the best antagonists from the best movie, and they can use Adagio whenever they want because she shares a singing voice with Rarity. Remember when Discord and Chrysalis were “done” and then they came back? Derpy is pointless, but do you know why she comes back all the time? Becuase she is popular. They’ll be back.
I doubt they will ever appear again. Even though I like the Shadowbolts, they (and the Sirens) seem to be one-and-done characters; doomed to be mentioned at best, forgotten at worst.
You are not alone. I like her too for her wrist devices, and her resemblance to Cinch making people guess that they are related. XD
More or less.
