I do agree that there wasn’t enough screentime for the Shadowbolts to flesh them out. I don’t see Sunny Flare having much character, but again, that’s because she didn’t get much to do. I am not hating on her like some folks do with Flash (who had character development by now), I don’t dislike her and pretend that’s because of a lack of character, I really can’t remember much about her. And I’m usually good with remembering stuff like that.
 
We had more than twice the amount of antagonists than in Rainbow Rocks and Equestria Girls. With movies this short, some characters are in danger of falling off the wagon.
 
I’d welcome some information to base her character on. No sarcasm, I’d love to hear it!

I completely agree. Sunny is not bland. She just didn’t receive enough screen time. At least one interaction with Rarity would have been nice. And I also hope she returns. She and her fellow Shadowbolts deserve more than they received.

Well I love Sunny Flare. She and the Shadowbolts were personally the only good thing about Friendship Games. Sunny definitely deserves much better than this. At least there was a book that did her some justice, and made me like this character a lot more than before. I think it’s really unfair when people try to say Sunny is bland and yet defend Background characters out of the blue. Sunny is Hands down one of my favorite characters. Hopefully we see her again. She really is a great character.

I think it is how they interacted with Sci-Twi. It’s a shame neither really did anything of note in Friendship Games, and I truly do hope they reappear. I doubt it will happen because Hasbro (or whoever is in charge) cares more about making money instead having artistic merits along with money making.

Where does it show how mean she is? We can only take things at face value. Anyone who makes things up or “extrapolates” based on fiction need to leave. She has shown no real negative behaviour besides taking part in a villain song, though one might argue she is loud and obnoxious. Her design being really cute is also a major factor. A lot of people might just like girls that like music. It’s also possible people might like her just because she is the “underdog” who got no real screen time, not to mention I’m fairly certain at least some people have projected at least a little onto her. People in this fandom project onto the characters all the time, sorry folks, Lyra and BonBon are just best friends and not lovers, and Derpy and Whoves/Turner are not in love.
 
It seems to me you might just dislike her because she is popular.

Seeing them come back would be great. But sadly that may never happen. I just personally feel Sunny gets so under looked and it just feels so upsetting. People throw down how she has no personality when she clearly had some character going on for her. Not much, but more than Lemon Zest in my opinion. Lemon may be the most down to earth of the five, but I just feel she really isn’t the character people make her out to be honestly. Lemon zest was just really forgettable for me, even worse, the credits forgot her name and called her Lemon Tart. As I said, I don’t hate her, and my opinions may change if we ever saw more of her, but I just don’t find her interesting and memorable in the slightest. I just feel that Sunny deserves more love.

Sunny does deserve more. As does Lemon. Contextually speaking, Lemon is one of the nicest because she wanted to share her music with Sci-Twi. She might not be nice in general, but we have very little to work with.
 
Your opinion about Lemon might change if she receives more time to flush out her character, but I doubt she (or any of the Shadowbolts) is going to receive any more appearances anytime soon. That might require more continuity than Hasbro (or whoever is in charge) is willing to allow.

Lemon Zest is so overrated in my opinion. She doesn’t really have anything going on for her aside from that one scene, which is that she likes music, that’s it. I also don’t like how people say she’s the nicest, especially when the movie clearly shows how mean she actually is. She felt so forgotten about. At least with Sunny, I felt she had more screen time, more dialogue, and more personality. She’s cunning, evil, sassy, smart, bold,and daring. Lemon on the other hand, just likes music and that’s it. Nothing else. I don’t hate Lemon Zest, but I do personally find it annoying to see Sunny abandoned and get little attention to her. Sunny Flare really deserves better than this.

Sunny Flare could quite possibly be Principal Cinch’s granddaughter. That explains it.

They should have come up with a way for Sunny Flare and Lemon Zest, and possibly Indigo Zap to come along to Camp Everfree. Sugarcoat and Sour Sweet all ready had a lot of screen time and development.

Here’s the thing: She wasn’t as hostile as the others, but she’s obviously very inconsiderate. She’s an obnoxious party rocker girl. That’s something to work with, much more than Sunny Flare got.

Why all the love here for all of them BUT Zap? She’s the cutest imo and my favorite.  
Also, I wouldn’t say Flare had no character. Really, the lot of them were fairly bland and void of depth. Don’t really know where people see the character in Lemon, either; she just listened to music and jammed out. Oh, and for the mere act of blasting her music into SciTwi’s ears, she is somehow considered nice. In terms of character, she is 2nd to last above Flare.
