You quoted it to me as rule 1, so I called it rule 1. What kind of stupid bait-and-switch is this?

I agree with this rule, but there are some people here who seem to have serious issues telling the difference between constructive criticism (or even compliments, in some cases) and insults.
I said some people think freedom of speech is a fundamental right, not that this site shouldn’t do anything about trolls. Jesus christ, why the hell does half this site assume people are trying to start a fight whenever they express their opinion?

let me clear this out to you so you understand what the fuck it is you’re even talking about.
first thing to clear, that’s not rule 1, That was the old rule 1, when rules weren’t swapped to be part of the same thing and the same kind of rule was placed into rules explaining that were two things in nature, e.g., old rule one was half about artist copyright and half about rule #0, where as, the “new” rule 1 is:
_Derpibooru is a website dedicated to fanart of MLP:FiM. Without the thousands of artists creating such fan art, we would not have much of a site at all. Therefore, it is important to always respect the wishes of the artists regarding their artwork.
Do not upload artwork that has not been publicly released, or is intended to remain private or restricted access, without permission from the artist who made it. This includes paid content, such as Patreon-only images or images from an art pack or folio.
Do not upload images from artists who are on our Do-Not-Post (DNP) List, or who have otherwise publicly made a clear and visible statement that they do not wish for their content to be on this website.
TL:DR; Respect artists’ copyright.
what you are talking about is something else entirely, as stated, it used to be part of rule #1 for no rhyme or reason, but now it was moved into rule #0, where it belongs, because all personal attacks, harassment and insults belong together and are the same done to any individual.
now, let’s read rule #0 again.

MLP:FiM is about sharing, friendship, and understanding. Don’t drag the site down into flamewars and angst – keep it constructive and positive.
What I find especially appalling here is this idea that negative opinions should be widely accepted, regardless if they’re helpful or not, which is basically an insane troll’s logic.. The fact of the matter is, any negative connotation without any good reason of being there, shouldn’t be accepted, this is why the site already offers other alternatives to things/themes/art you may not like, such as rule #4, because without their images, would there even be a derpibooru out here? so, please learn to be more appreciative of artists for their contribution to the community, this is not an absolute statement, meaning you don’t have to love and be all kisses with every artist including the ones you don’t like, but the general gist of this is, don’t condemn the other 99.9% of artists just because of a few rotten ones, just as we don’t condemn the other 99.9% of users in the community for a few nuisances.
last thing to note here, in addition to what you’ve been suggesting here about treating “some” artists with the respect they’re due, if we lived in this reality you’re describing, you’d be banned right now forever, as we (staff) would have exceedingly strong biases against all the users and viewers out here, not just the troublemakers, but literally all of them, considering you nothing more than worthless trash. Not saying some of us don’t have some biases against some users, like you for example seem to imply you have some biases against some artists, which is also fine in my book, just so long as you don’t uselessly enact upon a childish tirade of artist witch hunts, but we do keep that as much to a minimum as much as is humanly possible. We’re not saints here after all, we’re all only human and we all expect everyone else to be human too and not animals.

I don’t think those rule 1 is worth anything. Someone somewhere in the world will think you’re an ass, no matter who you are. It’s too subjective to be practical.
I really don’t care if people think I’m an ass. I’d rather just concentrate on being right.
Also remember that the rules of the site exist for a the purpose of making this site and community work, not as an end in themselves - basically, don’t forget rule #n

I read a vore fic out of curiosity recently. It was pretty harmless, but even so, I was kind of disturbed by the way everything was described. I think I’ve just always regarded the thought of being eaten with fear, ever since I was a kid. I probably saw a snake eating a mouse whole as a kid or something and it scared me.
you know an even more important rule that I know and I consider a deep, fundamental law of morality? this thing called a rule of thumb and in order to follow it, you only gotta do this.
step 1, don’t be an ass.
step 2-infinity, don’t ever stop repeating step 1.
step 3-the beyond, remember the rules of the site. Also, remember that they’re Rules. There’s rules in other places too and if you break them, you get kicked out, fundamental freedom or not.
The concept of freedom of speech is not owned by the USA, it’s regarded by many people (including myself) as a fundamental right.
