The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Escapee from Alcatraz
@Impossible9
Very well then, chaos and anarchy will rule the streets, murders will go by unnoticed, thievery will be a common occurrence, flames will consume each and every last building made…
…But you will have your freedom.

Guys:
Shut up and enjoy the art, and put your thoughts into a proper representation of your feelings through your own work.

You guys take this shit way too seriously.
Just because I like Luna and the NLR better doesn’t mean I think Celestia’s a tyrant.

>supports the purely fanonical representation of Celestia as an aloof out-of-touch tyrant and Luna as a do-no-wrong savvy modern revolutionary

>talks down to others when they disagree

@ All the people who don’t seem to get it… if you didn’t already understand this:

It’s a bit roundabout, actually. Celestia, by her memetic negligence to deal with things herself, was eventually fanon-interpreted as a tyrant from what was probably a sequence of exaggerations. This tyranny, in turn gave rise to a need for an opposite. The nearest opposite available was Luna, for she controls the night.

In general mythical and spiritual symbolism, the sun is the main god, representing order through creation as a result of its life-supporting properties. Plants bloom by sunlight.

The night, being the opposite of day, was then taken to represent chaos… freedom in another sense. Normally, the evil will conduct their work at night… killing, plotting, stealing/burgling. All these things are in opposition to order, but people do them because that is what they want… their ability to fulfill their desires is freedom in the personal sense. Liberty of conduct.

Order requires the restraint of conduct to satisfy a standard for all and promotes unity. Unity requires that there be no wrongs done to one another. If we were to impose that in our fandom, none of you would be allowed to hate others when they’ve done nothing to you, criticizing fanon-interpretations with canon-interpretations (that’s like using “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” to criticize the inaccuracy of a Greek myth), or call people retards (this is always done to hurt people… in this case, people who didn’t do anything to deserve it).

Freedom is what you are all exerting by saying what you want to say. Yet your freedom is someone else’s tyranny, for certain… why should a Luna fan have to suffer you calling them a “retard”? That’s not freedom from unwarranted verbal abuse, most certainly. But that’s exactly what you stole from them for your freedom to speak.

The point of freedom in the regard Luna has used it (canonically) is oneself. Not others. Freedom of one person doesn’t give regard to the freedoms of others. There is no mention of it. She has the power to do what she wants; even including the banning of a holiday or keeping an eternal night counts as an exertion of HER freedom because she is capable of doing those things. But you are all right that it grants no respect to the freedoms of others. Saying it isn’t a form of freedom, though, is technically false.

tl;dr: Why are you all a bunch of jerks?
pollodiablo

That doesn’t make any sense. What’s the point of placing order and freedom as opposing ideas if your theory is right, BP? The symbolism is quite clear here. Especially since the artist states “The scenario is supposed to be a political battle between Luna and Celestia. Celestia is a social-communist while Luna is a liberal-anarchist.” So it’s quite clear it’s about political idea of freedom vs order/security.

you know maybe this freedom means being free from evil powers (NMM)? and order don’t mean that she is tyrant … just balance in everything

this is how I see this

Holy shit, Fen said something brilliant.

Yes, exactly. Celestia has created a world where ponies can do just about anything they fucking want in a safe and caring environment, and enjoy themselves.

Luna wanted to subjugate ponykind and make them worship her just to sate her ego. Sure, she was corrupt, but then she was more or less a showboat in Luna Eclipsed as well.

NLR kids are retarded.

If Princess Celestia is a tyrant, she’s a tyrant in the vein of Lord Vetinari: while she has the power to oppress her citizens any way she wishes, she does not do so because she’s far too wise to give in to megalomania. Instead, she’s fully dedicated to keeping her land running smoothly, and does so more through subtle manipulation than brute force.

As for Luna…even when she was good, she cancelled Ponyville’s favorite holiday because she didn’t like the way she was depicted, even though it was based on fact. Yeah, that’s a freedom lover, all right.

Bunch of retards thinking “Poor Woona is Mistweated by her EEEEEVIL tyrant sister Celestia!”

Damn giblet-heads

I don’t get people’s weird idea that Celestia is about order and control and Luna is about freedom.

Luna tried to dominate the entire world and force them to do what she wants.

Freedom!
