I started with the season pilot on October 11, 2010. (I had pony collector friends who tipped me off to the new show! At the time, my most recent experience with pony was the My Little Pony Movie from 1986, which was so poor my wife and I stopped watching before finishing it. I was skeptical, but intrigued that Lauren Faust was heading it up. I liked PPG and FHFIF.)
It works much better if you know the characters, though.
I started with the pilot, then binged the first episodes until I caught up, somewhere around halfway through S1. Bridle Gossip, maybe, or Swarm of the Century?
I’m sure you know of this. It’s just Right Click -> Properties.
Hmm… I’ve never heard of that. How do you access it? (I’m on a Windows 7, if that helps.)

It’s saved in my PC, in file/folder metadata (or attributes?).
