But yeah, they’re not really acting more intelligent than real fish in this episode. Meanwhile cats, owls, and even mice show signs of some sapience.
 
Mice have had little nuclear families and pushed a wheelchair, as well as being intelligent enough to understand Fluttershy in A Bird in the Hoof.
 
So fish aren’t really any more fridge horror to eat here than IRL.
 
Though somehow I imagine killing those fish was a bit less gruesome in cartoon land than IRL.

That’s pretty much how my fishes when I feed them and that’s I think the best part of owning a fishes, it’s relaxing to watch swim around to eat the food.

Fish can still get “excited” and hop up for food, but not be sapient at all. Just like a feeding frenzy with more breaching.

I think she’d have probably come to terms with it before then, but otherwise I like your concept.

Fish are not people.

I’m pretty sure she didn’t killed them. They were already dead after spawning, so why waste bodies?

I think there is potential for a (fan) story taking place between these episodes, about Fluttershy coming into terms with carnivores having to eat other animals. Nothing of “they are not sapient/selfaware” excuses, just accepting how things work and move on.
