Yeah, in a way you might be right. With spme other characters, it felt like it was forced upon them. (Like Sunset being shot by rainbows, then suddenly becomes remorseful, and nice, or Discord being put in Fluttershy’s care, and at one point Twilight even considering bewitching him basically to make him good. In a way I was actually glad Discord ate that paper spell.)

to be honest I still think starlight has one of the better reformations in this show mostly because the hero actually talks to her and she gave up willingly and it doesn’t feel like it was only happening because she was defeated. Also she wasn’t downgraded of background pony afterwards

Granted many of her actions were undone by time-travel, (and in fairness, she didn’t wanna destroy Equestria, she just wanted revenge on Twilight) and she did make peace with her former village apparently.
Theft is theft. Doesn’t matter what the stolen article was.
