And then what shall we see?
Tick tock, until the day,
‘Till thou shalt marry me
Tick tock, goes the clock
And all the years they fly
Tick tock, and all too soon,
You
and Imust dieNo, you’re not
Don’t hurt yourself over a series of comments. I’m worried about you.
Fine, I think now I´ll just go kill myself. Pleasure to meet you.
My friend, your response to ‘bad things happen whether or not you see them’ was ‘then why do anything at all with my entire life?’. That’s not a healthy attitude. Please seek help.
Nice argument. I don´t share your point of view, so obviously I need mental help because anyone that doesn´t agree with you is clearly crazy.
I’m not ‘dragging’ my argument anywhere, I’m pointing out that you’ve misread it.
If your response to ‘bad things are going to happen’ is ‘sit there and let them’, I think you’ve got some issues that need working out. See a psych.
Now you´re dragging your argument to a higher morale stand. This is not about the world ending or not, but how it would affect an immortal being. Hell, if we go for that mindset, I don´t get why we humans don´t just sit on our asses and let the world die since eventually our planet will be destroyed.
An immortal would have to face all that, unlike a person who eventually dies. That´s the reason I think Fluttershy, or many other people at that, would prefer to live and die instead of living forever.
Also, what does that mean? Death is death and life is life, except when life it´s death? Is that what you are trying to get across?
See, I never said anything about whether or not you’ll see it. I said ‘it’ll happen regardless’. That’s what you’re missing here. Frankly, I think it’s very selfish to value whether or not you see bad things happening over whether or not they happen at all.
And any life that is worse than death is, itself, a form of death. That’s all that is.
It´s far less probable you´ll see the fall of a prosperous empire with a limited lifespan in contrast to an unlimited one, in which seeing everything you love destroyed is a certainty. And if an Empire were to collapse in your lifetime it would have been showing signs of decay way before you were born. Or do you think Rome fell in a day? The Mongol Empire? Ancient Egypt? The Spanish Empire? The Colonial Empires? All those took generations to bring down. Unless you are born near the end there´s very little possibility of seeing it collapse in your lifetime.
Not only regarding civilizations, but on a more personal level; while you´d lose some things if you were mortal, you´d love everything if you were immortal. It´s logic.
Static nothingness is better than some of the crap life has to offer. What do you think people who beg for death due to being in immense misery or pain are thinking? There are several occasions where death is preferable to life.
No, those things would happen. Other people will still die, and empires will still rise and fall. You are factually incorrect here.
And frankly you’re not countering my assertion that death is inferior to life in the slightest. You’re reinforcing it by bringing up that death is static nothingness.
No, none of that would happen if she were mortal. Or at least, they´d happen on a much lesser scale.
And that reasoning If life is better than death than eternal life is better than eternal death is pretty flawed. It´s too simplistic. You need to take in consideration the changes one experiences in life. Death is static, life is not. Life can always get better or worse, death is an eternal state of stability and nothingness.
Who cares about any of that? If life is better than death than eternal life is better than eternal death.
And all those things are going to happen whether she lives forever or not, so what difference could it possibly make? Her death on top of those things is just one more unnecessary tragedy.
Define “consequence-free”. You´ll have to see everyone you know die (kind of cliche, but true), how your language slowly withers, she´d have to see Equestria´s decline as in every great nation… Immortality is not for everyone. There are people who just prefer to live what they want to live and then peacefully die. I am pretty sure Fluttershy would be one of these people.
Cause now she’s old and dying by choice. She doesn’t have to be. The out’s right there, consequence-free.
How so?
Well that just undermines the picture even further.
This is beautiful.
Pretty sure she doesn´t want that. Otherwise, he would have done it.
