Especially since Cook just left.
IDW’s MLP needs to get back to “just because it’s a good book” status before they can go to themes like that, really. No one on it is talented enough to do it.
Yes if it’s done right and it doesn’t feel shoehorned in.
I just find this whole thing hilarious.
Here’s a writer for IDW talking about how a Hasbro based series needs LGBT representation.
Meanwhile there is a comic published by IDW based on a Hasbro product that does have LGBT representation and it’s an extremely well written series.
It’s not just well regarded by the LGBT community but by everyone just because it’s a good book.
Yep. Stuff like that is why having some representation is a good thing.
An episode all about how things that are mass produced and look the same have no life put into them…for a show designed (and an episode specifically) to sell mass produced toys? It’s kind of funny.
Hmm, can’t recall.
Deets?
MLP already kinda had that episode with Canterlot Boutique, and it was.
Remember how the new PPG did when they wanted to do a trans episode
It was not good
It’s best to keep issues that children don’t know or care about out of children’s shows.
Can you imagine an episode about the evils of capitalism or something starring Spike? That’d be surreal.
Who pissed in your cheerios today? Dude, calm the fuck down, and stop asking for a positive circle jerk about the show, it’s weird and makes you very hard to take seriously. There is no more merit in unnecessary gushing than there is in unnecessary whining. Be a little more… tolerant of other peoples opinions.
@CMC Scootaloo
Also, I would really advise you to take it down a notch in regards to the LGBT thing. Take it from someone who is at least one of those letters (I’ll give you a hint: not T nor L nor G); you’re not helping anyone at all by being this abrasive. You remind me of a nice young man who was reduced to defending a Buzzfeed article about trans people that was almost as abrasive as you.
What I’m saying is, take a step back, and reflect upon how you have declared anyone who doesn’t want a super LGBT funtime episode to be people who hate them. Maybe don’t have such an all or nothing attitude, that might help. Accept that there may be people who aren’t monsters that oppose such an idea.
Problem is the tomboyish lesbian is so over done that if you really want to not be sticking to stereotyping then don’t make the one people already stereotype as being one become a canon case of it.
It’s not going with a stereotype if you’re showing a variety of them and showing there’s more than one type of lesbian. Like I said, it’s bad if she’s the one gay character, but showing a variety of personalities (including a tomboyish lesbian) isn’t stereotyping.
@Prof.NightJack
this
Still going with stereotype, that’s the problem.
Did you just completely ignore the rest of my post?
well the fandom already did the pink dragon.
yeah, lets make the rainbow themed tomboy character a lesbian, because sterotypes are great!
Again I laud Transformers: More Then Meets The Eye where not only is there same gender couples
They have transgender characters
See the human is Cyclonus’ avatar that’s a reflection of his personality.
And it’s a very well written book with character development and world building and heavy use of continuity.
Exactly. I’m be okay with it, but I’d be worried that they’ll just play the stereotypes straight. I’d hope they’d be able to make it normalized and not stereotypical, something like with Steven Universe. That’s not the only example, but it’s a well known one.
I grew up around girls that where tomboyish, not one of them was gay.
@Registered Anon
Yeah, I think making the atheletic tomboy a lesbian would be ‘handling it poorly’ as it would do nothing but reinforce stereotypes.
I really do not want Dash to be made gay in canon, more so to not push stereotype with her being a tomboy and ranbows.
Well, I wouldn’t be against it for supporting or minor characters. I’d be fine with Lyra & Bon Bon being an official couple just like I am with Shining Armor & Cadance. On the same page, I’m as against Rainbow & Fluttershy being a couple as I am Twilight & Flash Sentry (which seems to have been mostly abandoned, fortunately).
So, basically, my opposition to romance in the show has nothing to do with the gender of the characters.
