Equestria is either a planetoid with builded artifical sphere around it to represent sky, or it is hollowed out giant asteroid, with Equestria on the one side of it, and sky painted on another.

An artificial structure built around a planet is usually called a Micro-Dyson Sphere in most science fiction. It’s micro because the original concept for the Dyson Sphere went around a star and had a radius of 1 AU.
