Tails was actually made an unlockable character prior in the Mobile phone version of the first original StH game. (Knuckles too.)  
Said version was made by Christian Whitehead’s development team too.  
Shame Sega’s official “Sega Forever” lineup isn’t as great recreation-wise as Whitehead’s Sonic 1, 2, and CD Mobile remakes. They should’ve had Whitehead’s team make the emulation for those too.

Luckily, I’ve still got my old SNES and the Famicom Twin that I got from a buddy as a birthday present. I know at the end of the day that they’re just electronics, but if either of them died on me I’d be one helluva sad Joey; especially if the Twin died, what with it being a gift from a good friend.
 
The consoles that I did lose and lament the most are my: Sega Genesis, Atari 2600, PS1 (my first one; I have another, but my first was kind of an emotional attachment thing), XBox (yeah, it was ugly as sin, but I got to experience the launch of one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time, which was pretty damn cool).
 
My Dreamcast is on its’ last legs though… I’m scared. What if I’ll never be able to force my least-favorite friends to play Sonic Shuffle again?!

It’s a shame my old Sega Genesis died back in 2002, because I remember really enjoying the first two games. I’m sure I could pirate them or something and emulate them on my comp, but something about holding the actual controller and hearing that “snap” when you plug the game into the console is just so satisfying, you know?
 
I’m only 27, but I feel like an old fogey when I say shit like that xD . One of these days I’ll either buy another Genesis online or I’ll just bite the bullet and emulate the games instead.

The last time I played either Sonic 1 or 2 was way back in 1999, when I was around 11-years-old, so it’s hard to remember which game it is just by looking at the image.

Also, is it really necessary to keep adding episode tags to memes? Because, if so, the “Tailcopter” came from Amending Fences.
 
It just seems really needless in the long run.

“Authentic” Sonic 1 or not, I’d still play it, even if only for the visual aesthetic of watching Rarity roll around at the speed of sound.
