The fillies and mare does look similar to how previous gen ponies are designed in older issues. So you’re probably right.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the character is a reference to an older-gen character. The comic illustrators like to include them. I’m not very familiar with pre-G4, though.
May be the other way around, depending on when this fancomic started. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the inside of the school - The Celestia microcomic from back in the day showed it (and a character from that microcomic cameos in this one, so..)

Yeah, no. Unless this issue has something like, say, Twilight feeding Spike his own egg shell or the school having a giant hourglass that can measure a century then you’ll have to forgive me if I save my tinfoil for cooking instead of wearing on my head.

Considering that he wasn’t above being directly “inspired” by a show episode, I have some doubts.
I’m sure your buddy Ted is well aware of the comic and will go to great lengths to differentiate his own work from it.
Well you do have a point. I mean there’s no way it’s a coincidence that someone could’ve come up with Muffinshire’s completely original plot of “Twilight goes to school”.
Seems like he just lifted this plot.

I think they based it on that comic. The comics have always payed close attention to the brony community so they will have heard of the highest level comic in the entire community. The internal design on the school is heavily based on “Twilight’s first day”.
