But twilight never gave up her cutie mark, It was forcibly torn from her body over her explicit objections while starlight gave one of the best/creepiest rape faces on the show and any future co-operation on twilights part would have been brought about by that brain washing room.
Starlight may have deluded herself into thinking she was doing the horrible things she did for the sake of others but the fact that she was willing to treat people so cruelly just because they were already happy with their lives and rejected her philosophy speaks volumes about her true character.
there is no reason not to believe she wasn’t prepared to do the same to others. there’s not much worse then a tyrant who thinks she knows what’s best for you. she was a horrible person doing immoral things for reasons that only made sense to her and almost caused disaster for everyone on the planet.
To be honest, everything I just said makes starlight a great villain who could have provided the show a much needed recurring antagonist that people would have loved to hate. but because of that tacked on nonsensical Freudian excuse and a rushed ending that hamstrings a lot of potential character growth starlight is hated for the wrong reasons.
However, the differences between Starlight Glimmer and the examples that you listed are that the scope of her actions were significantly smaller than the others and she didn’t cause any fatalities. Starlight didn’t plan on taking over Equestria; she wanted more people to adopt her ideology, so she thought that Twilight giving up her cutie mark would convince other ponies to want to do so as well. I personally doubt that most of her villagers had their cutie marks forcibly removed, and it wouldn’t make sense for her to try to do that when the village was first established.
To give an example for why I think that the intentions of actions should be considered as well as the effect, would you consider someone who killed another either by complete accident or because they were protecting someone else to be as evil as someone who killed just to do so?
Regardless of what Starlight’s intentions were, her actions were still evil. Maybe she didn’t set out to do evil things, but she certainly did. See the brainwashing, imprisonment, stealing of Cutie Marks, plans to take over Equestria at some point, etc. A lot of people who did terrible things had noble goals - in fact, some of the worst people in history had noble goals (see Hitler, Stalin, Mao, et al.) - but that doesn’t make their actions any less evil.
Besides, that quote I posted was sarcastic.
This is a misrepresentation of Starlight’s character. Her reason for creating the village and her reason for trying to spite Twilight are not one and the same. Your statement also relies on the premise that she created her village with evil intentions in mind, which isn’t true.
You can’t really fault Starlight for not knowing how intrinsically important the Mane Six were. Twilight Sparkle even says that she doesn’t know why her friends are so important to Equestria’s well-being. Even if they had saved Equestria multiple times, would that mean that any other group would not be able to do so? Judging her on the basis that she should have known how badly the future would have ended up is basically hindsight bias.
@Lucky Shot
I’m just going to say that it is a very bad idea to not consider the intentions of actions.
It’s either Stockholm Syndrome or lazy writing. Well, make up your mind already.
I don’t know about them, but the townsfolk definitely do.Good, I haven’t decided yet.
So the M6 have Stockholm Syndrome? I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not.
hey, they all became friends by sharing the experience and are probably much stronger ponies through it to boot.
What about the fact that she brainwashed and probably tortured a whole bunch of ponies, including the M6 themselves?
Preventing the rainboom still would have erased spike. She definitely should gave known that with with all the stalking and research of twilights origins she claims she did.
But then, the writers themselves probaby forgot about that.
Really, someone that smart should have thought of that.
The only thing she did was fuck up the past, which transported them to a separate timeline. She only wanted to get rid of twilight’s cutie mark, and had no idea that doing so would fuck over the entire world.(this is clearly seen when she visited the wasteland timeline) She did not commit inhuman acts herself.(unless loss of a CM is inhuman)
“Waah! My only friend moved away when I was a foal: now I’m evil!”
@soundtea
The fact they were able to fix it in the end doesn’t mean it wasn’t fucked up.
@Background Pony #57E1
Knowing the writers, they probably feel as though she’s redeemed enough already.
Except she never destroyed it. That would imply an entire universal fuckup. Hell going by multiverse theory, the most she ever did was bap filly Dash with a blast and waste Twilight’s day. Either way in the end it’s as if nothing happened, and the only ones with any memory of the event are Twilight, Spike, and Starlight herself.
The ending of Part 6 of JoJo is what happens when you destroy time. Everything is irreversably fucked up.
Well too bad she did destroy it. Intentions don’t mean anything. Consequences do and season 5 is basically letting everybody get away from the consequences if they make good enough excuses
She never wanted to destroy it, just mainly try and get Twilight to scram so she could be with her village at peace. She’s notably horrified when she sees what she’s actually done before going into last ditch denial mode.
Thats just my opinion though, I dont hate starlight and I think this picture is really well done.
Definitely equal
Oh it’s okay Starlight because you did it out of disproportionate vengeance. :’) It’s okay to do inhuman and sickly things if you were sad. Are you sorry?
“Yeah. :(”
We forgive you.
“Yaaay! What a great lesson to teach kids! =D”
I know! n__n #GrandLarsony
