Sunset’s almost assuredly an alicorn human.
 
As to why Fluttershy lacks wings, its because they slashed the number of toys they were making for LOE HARD after FG blew up in their face and failed to sell.
 
So they only have 3 toylines for this movie:  
Summer camp dress line, which lacks wings, just has pony ears.  
Bohemian dress line, which also lacks wings  
Crystal wing toyline, which DOES have wings, and only twilight, Sunset, and for some insane reason, rainbow dash, get. (I say “some insane reason” because I’m pretty sure that’s a super mode wing thing, and 10 to 1 odds that’s a Sunset/twilight specific thing if it happens just like FG’s climax)

Makes sense to me; They’ll come up with a BS reason of “You absorbed magical energy permanently from that transformation!” to explain why they have wings now, and they’ll run with them being essentially alicorns from that point on with wings.
 
Hasbro wants those 2 with wings, and logic and canon can go out the back door as far as hasbro is concerned: So they’ll have the wings when they pony up, absolutely no doubt here. At best they’ll get their wings as part of some random transformation super mode they’ll get at the end to defeat the villain. (The toys are called “crystal fire wings” toys I believe after all, which might actually mean something plot wise.

That does make sense, because I think that the next EG movie is going to mostly focus on Sci-Twi. They seem to like to put wings on all “Twilight” dolls regardless of consistency.
 
I’m still wondering about Sunset though, because the doll is clearly not Daydream Shimmer and I doubt the wings are the “metaphor” phoenix ones from her song. I guess we’ll see where that goes.

The only reason she has wings and ears in promotional material is to match the dolls. None of the Shadowbolts ponied up, but all dolls have pony ears. (except Flash)
 
I’m skeptical to believe this is Pony Twi, because all Sci Twi merch comes with glasses. That’s the difference between them. This one has glasses and her hair is in a ponytail.

Sci-Twi having wings as a result of being “ponied up” makes no sense though, which makes me think this is actually Princess Twilight. Though in the past, the promotional material itself hasn’t done a good job in differentiating them… several images from Friendship Games showed Sci-Twi ponied up and with wings, both of which didn’t happen.
 
Sunset having wings though might be a bit telling for some events of EG4. Midnight Sparkle and Daydream Shimmer were one-time, special transformations that probably won’t happen again, and neither of them were “ponied up” transformations (they lack the pony ears, for one). If Sunset now has wings as a result of ponying-up, then you know what that probably means.
 
Not that it matters much, because she’ll still be spending the majority of her time with her friends in her new home/world (and Sunset’s past the point of really wanting to be a Princess anyway), but the fact that she’s come full circle and truly “showed her quality” as Samwise would say is a nice touch.
 
Just give us the inevitable reunion with Celestia in the next movie, please.

The last finale did reinforce from S1 how Rainbow Dash doing the impossible cause them all to become elements and save equestia.
 
Whether the Rainbow Dash/Celestia connection will open up later is uncertain, however I think the toys, and RD’s colors, were just odd toy designs. Most likely unrelated.

Yeah, she looks pretty pale. :P I don’t think the red wings look too bad. Dash has blue and yellow hair, plus the red outfit and wings, so she’s made up of primary colors.

To be fair, she DOES look white from this angle, and her hairs almost completely blue, so with the quality of the toys and this distance its hard to tell that she’s not celestia.
 
 
On that note, Red seems a VERY poor color for Dash’s wings :/  
I mean, Wouldn’t blue make more sense? It can’t be THAT hard to do that hasbro.
 
I mean, if her wings turn rainbow colored or something like the rainbow power color line at some point, I can semi-see red, but besides that there’s not much excuse for red wings except laziness hasbro :/

They seem to be giving alicorns Stylized energy wings to set them apart from normal plebian pegasi. Celestia has the energy wings style too you’ll notice.  
pegasi all seem to just have the normal bog standard ones by contrast. This makes me wonder if in movie they’ll have the alicorns have energy wings as well whenever they transform.
