Well, when you think about it Fluttershy talking with animals has proven long ago that most animals have sentience, just not language most can understand, so is it really that odd that Gummy can ‘talk?’
 
That said, I still wish it hadn’t been part of the episode since when you look at some of the cut things there were several others that could have been more interesting, like Vinyl getting a speaking role finally instead of being mute.
