Two quick things,
Its a scenario as old as C.S. Lewis’ material, if not older.
Edited
Interesting.
Its hard to imagine Celestia and Luna having parents at the time of Luna’s corruption. Even though Luna was originally going to be (physically) much younger then current Luna, as we saw in the premier, there stated roles made it an unlikely situation. Even though they did keep that Luna went dark side in their castle in the forest, everything else in the show regarding that point in history was different then Faust’s vision.
She seemed uncertain whether they actually lived with their parents while as Equestrian princesses, but was certain that they did have parents, huh? That’s pretty understandable. And she said ‘a series’? Innnnteresting…heck I’m still waiting for ‘in the past episodes’ that involves the 6 founders of Canterlot, Starswirled, and young Celestia and Luna.
@EquestrianScholar
No problem. Take your time. :)
@EquestrianScholar
Regarding what Faust said about a whole series to cover Celestia and Luna’s youth, and what the evidence points to in Meghan’s stories, I’m starting to wonder if Celestia and Luna were even born Equestrians.
Also the bit about the book mentioning Celestia and Luna lived with other alicorns and me feeling the book suggested they were born alicorns are separate thoughts, if connected.
Q: Where was Celestia when NMM appeared? Don’t answer if you never thought of it beforehand. Don’t wanna destroy anybody’s theories.
A: In my mind, they were still young and still lived in the same castle together— perhaps with their parents. It was the ruined castle in the Everfree Forest that was featured in the premiere episode. Before she appeared in Ponyvile, NMM went to Canterlot to find Celestia and use magic to banish Celestia in the Sun. REVENGE!
I imagined them with parents, yes. I wish I could’ve made a series just about Celestia and Luna’s youth. Sigh…

@CronoM
Let me see if I can find a quote from the book, or a few quotes, and get back with you. Using my phone right now and can’t access the digital copy I had of The Journal of the Two Sisters.
In fact you stated “Actually I always felt The Journal of the Two Sisters suggested that they were born alicorns.” Which is it?
Didn’t Celestia and Luna just say there was other alicorns out there, despite all proof to the contrary, to avoid any questions about their origins?
The method that had happened before to supposedly make Celestia and Luna alicorns were state secrets in Sunset’s backstory comic. Nobody is supposed to know, which is something Sunset rubbed in Twilight’s face in EG1.
I know for certain it was never stated in the show they lived with other alicorns, whether it was stated in the journal is not exactly a reliable source.
Haven’t heard the one about them living with their parents in Everfree before, not even a little. When was that interview taken? Gonna have to script me those passages and those interviews.
I’m not trying to pick a fight, I just don’t see how the backstory has any plausibility past S1. Like Woona, a lot of things were retconned after the initial premier. Ever since as early as Hearts Warming eve, the chances of entire race of alicorns fitting in somewhere, even in the past, are almost none. And those events took place before Canterlot was founded.
I am certain Celestia and Luna mentioned living with other alicorns, whether this was just in their journal or to other ponies I don’t remember.
Not only had Lauren Faust say during interview that Celestia and Luna were born alicorns, but that they lived with their parents in the old castle found in the Everfree… which that second part could reasonably be argued is countered in the Journal of the Two Sisters, since it was the sisters who had the castle made and no parents were in sight.
I don’t recall an entire race of alicorns being mentioned in that book, although its been a while, but even if there was, that would do nightmares to the most basic of magic continuity. Especially after Tirek, the exceptional rarity of alicorn magic made that plot point, an entire race, nearly impossible.
Did Faust say that? Whether she did or didn’t, it doesn’t seem to have any baring on the show proper created by Meghan’s continuity.
Our one hint from Meghan towards their origins came from bully Sunset from EG1, making it sound like Celestia had not told Twilight in confidence about how she ‘became’ an alicorn after being chosen by the elements while traveling worlds(for whatever reason the sister’s cutie marks were on the Tree of Harmony). The origin comic IDW and DHX worked on for Sunset elaborated even further on it, outlining that what Sunset was trying to achieve in EG1 was to become an alicorn of similar type to Celestia and Luna, and that it had been used in the past at least once.
Actually I always felt The Journal of the Two Sisters suggested that they were born alicorns, especially given how there was a whole race of alicorns somewhere else. There is also Lauren Faust’s words that Celestia and Luna are born alicorns, which I will treat personally as canon until the show says otherwise.
Going by the Journal of the Two Sisters, the book starts with Starswirl meeting them in Canterlot as alicorn teenagers. What they were beforehand is another matter entirely, something we don’t have a clue about. The only thing hinted toward that was Sunset taunted Twilight for Celestia not telling her in EG1, and while she was being intentionally vague she did imply it was about Celestia and Celestia’s secret.
If we’re going by EU, then the Journal of the Two Sisters has Celestia and Luna as natural born alicorns.
FH: Sup, hot stuff? Come here often?
Spike: Um… I live here.
FH: Yeah, so do you have like a room or something?
Spike: Yeah, you took it when you moved in. Now I sleep on the couch.
FH: Aww, mean ol’ auntie Twi got you in the doggy pound? She’s so anal sometimes.
Spike: Yeah.
FH: Slides wing around baby dragon So… got a special somepony?
Spike: Uhhh─
FH: Shhh… You are taken from this point forward. As decreed by her royal highness, Princess Flurry Heart.
Spike: I need an adult.
FH: I am an adult.
Spike: You were born just last week!
FH: And I want foals by next week.
Spike: WHAT?
FH: Oh wait, is that moving too fast? Then I want to be married by next week!
Spike: THAT DOESN’T HELP AT ALL!
FH: …Friends with benefits?
Spike: *Facepalms *
That’s one of the things we’re going to find out in Season 6, most likely. Twilight was obviously not born an alicorn, and some of the EU material (the books) indicate neither was Cadance. Not sure if there’s anything on whether Celestia or Luna were born alicorns, and anyway, that was so long ago it’s possibly no pony remembers.
“wtf u were just born like five minutes ago”
It’s more like Morty jr from Rick and Morty. Cute at first, and then…I don’t know…she decides to write a book about her parents being awful?
No just her. She was a foal last week, but she endured some accelerated growth and opted to rule her own kingdom after she did her stereotypical Disney number on how she wanted more for herself.
Eventually, she’ll come galloping back. It’ll probably be after losing the war with Chrysalis.
