This raises a thought.
 
Season 2 was when Mrs. Cake had the twins, which indicates that she was carrying them since the beginning of season 1. So that means she was preggers from the start, yet her physical appearance didn’t change. Does this apply to Cadance as well, considering that she could’ve been preggo from the start or midways of season 4, possibly even earlier considering that they got hitched at the end of season 2?
 
Thus my theory: Cadance’s announcement to Twilight took place at their BABY SHOWER, MEANING SHE WAS IN HER FINAL MONTHS THEN!

I’m sure the years in Equestria are the same length as ours, so the seasons would have to last longer for that to be the case.

I really hope they don’t start doing that. The episodes are mostly meant to be watchable in almost any order. Some are at fixed positions, like S2E25/E26 must obviously happen before S3E01/E02 and season 4 and later must happen after seasons 1-3, but you can shuffle the rest of the episodes around quite freely.
 
A time jump would completely destroy this aspect. I seriously doubt they’d do it. At least they would have to state it clearly (“so and so many moons have passed”).

That all said, I’m sure they have some pretty great stories in mind regardless, I would like to think so anyway.

I find the idea of the ascension journey and process really cool too, regardless, the concept of an Alicorn mother birthing an Alicorn foal isn’t an issue, for me anyway, it’s a concept that was pretty nebulous to everyone before, nobody knew what would happen, but it makes sense in any case.
 
I get why you may have wanted it to go the other way though, with her acheiving the ascension to Alicornhood, that would have been a pretty awesome story.

That’s not completely impossible. The formula of the show has curently run dry, with nowhere to go on by this point.  
But adding a time skip would solve a lot of problems. The CMC would have new challenges, we wouldn’t have to see the grow in Starlight Glimmer learning about friendship. (Which as interesting as it may be, it’s what the first 2~3 seasons were about.)
 
If there won’t be a time skip, then there will be nothing new to show, and we wiull fall into Simpsons and Spongebob area, where everything they show is something old and not as meaningful as the previous stuff.

But if Cadence was already pregnant before they married, you should have been able to see her pregnant belly in seasons 3-5 gradually getting bigger.
 
The show is somewhat inconsistent when it comes to time, yes, but if seasons 1-3 took place within one year (Summe Sun Celebration in season 1 and 4 premieres), then we can estimate that one year in-universe takes about 2.5 seasons. So by mid-season 6, it should be two years since Twilight came to Ponyville for the first time. A time skip of almost one year at this point would be… insane even for this show. The CMC would have grown up a little. Spike would be slightly bigger. And so on.

That was not in the comics, it was from GM Berrow’s first book for the series.

Time skips happen in this show. A lot. It’s normal.
 
Also, I bet Cadence was pregnant before they got married, and got married as fast as possible to cover it up. It explains why she was born “so fast” and why they never told anyone until the later months I bet. It happens all the time.

An alciorn had an alicorn baby? Say it an’t so! Honestly, coming from a show where two earth ponies had a Pegasus and a unicorn, you find this weird? What is wrong with some people? Heck, the only thing weird about her is that her wings and horn are adult sized at birth. What’s up with that?
