All I remember is him growing distant and the new body. I always thought the “new body” was referring to his EX form as opposed to the metal box.
Not to mention the entry about him in the True Lab.
She does kinda say both in pacifist:

That’s odd… I remember her saying both… What an odd thing to remember, since I got full pacifist…
It’s clearer if you buy the mystery key and enter the house next to Napstablook, as well as what Alphys says after you defeat Mettaton. If you kill him, she’s like “b-but I can always build a new robot… yeah…”, whereas if you spare him it’s “Oh thank GOD it’s just the batteries!”
I’ve heard that. I think it kinda contradicts what Alphys said about him, though… So I guess she really was lying, then, heh.
Uh. About Mettaton…
He’s really not programmed. He’s a ghost who inhabits (and presumably has by this point permanently bonded with) the robot body Alphys made for him.
I kinda feel sorry for Trixie’s narcissism, though. You could see how she dropped the act when faced with mortal terror (A real Ursa), so at some level or other, she knows it’s a Facade she puts on. The question is… Why?
As for Mettaton, he’s just a machine that’s programmed that way. Blame Alphys. But… Do be gentle. She has as much self-esteem as Mettaton lacks.
a.) Heck yes! c.) Heck yes!
b.) Heck yes! d.) Heck yes!
e.) Yes, but don’t tell my parents
Well the feedback loop created by her is gonna bring it up to at least 200 tons.
Shhh, not yet! Sardonyx doesn’t show up until act three!
