read the article and see(there should be a brony news site reporting stuff like this)cause the only way to respond to things like this is know, get mad(like an outbreak not a riot ), and finally call them and tell how offensive it is

Im sure it is using words like OBSESSED and getting details that should be almost secret the fursuit is a detail that would make most people look bad

A point that I’d like to make at this point is that the Daily Star is a very unreliable and casually bigoted ‘newspaper’ and this article is most certainly twisted to make the guy, and all bronies, look bad.

that is kinda creepy but yes as long as he has food

Don’t assume that I dislike the show or that I think that this guy should stop liking MLP, I’m just saying that the level of obsession that he is showing is dangerous, bordering or even mimicking someone that has a drug addiction. I’m honestly more concerned that at his levels of obsession, that he may eventually dip into levels that make him incapable of functioning in normal society. The largest concern however would come when MLP finally ends.

back then i prioritized my hobby over food and it was a mistake. that’s why i corrected my friend when he was DAMN proud that he can go an entire day without food (only water) just so he can afford his hobby.

it depends if the fursuit costs way more than he can afford to live comfortably.

may i add to the last one?

problem is when you prioritize the hobby (more than just MLP now) more than everything else (like going cheap with food in order to buy the latest merch)

Having a fursuit isn’t a mental illness.

There are fans, there are super-fans, and then there are the ppl that need an intervention.

Fans will watch the show and maybe have a few toys from the show.

Super-fans will watch the show, have full collections of toys, and may attend a convention about the show.

This guy does all of that, has just about every aspect of his life revolve around MLP, and has a fursuit that he made himself. This man needs an intervention, and some quality time with a therapist. And a lot of non MLP based human interaction.

Well if it’s something that brings you joy, yeah, totally. This is my favorite show, so it’s a big deal to me too.

But the danger comes when people start to define themselves through a fandom. Being a brony can’t be your defining characteristic in life. Just look at how many people try to enforce the “love and tolerance” idea on anyone that likes the show (when it started as a way to troll haters), ostracizing those who don’t seem to adhere to their own moral codes (the hate towards cloppers for example).

That’s the start of a dogma. And that’s how cults are started.

Tl;dr: enjoy the show, but don’t let it consume your life.

What is there to be proud about? “I like this show” is not an accomplishment.

It is about being progressive and accepting. We have a lot of bigotry in our society, labeling people with any label possible so you can look down on them. It’s so ingrained in our culture that it features in our laws, in our media (like the OPs picture from the daily star).

You’re trans? obviously you are mentally sick.
You’re black? Obviously you’re a lesser race, only suitable for crime.
You’re Muslim? Clearly you are a violent extremist.
You’re christian? Get off the soapbox you hypocrite.
You got raped? Well its your own fault for wearing provocative clothing.
You ride a motorbike? So do you ride at 150mph all the time or are you a drug running hells angel gangster?

You like MLP? You must be a social retard child rapist who is gay and lives in your parents basement.

Well, that’s the world we live in. If you’re not ‘normal’, you’re WRONG. There was a big movement in the brony community to work against the institutionalized bigotry that we live in. I can’t say if it has had any impact. Did bronies have a hand in legalizing gay marriage? Possibly, a small influence.
We have, as humans, a duty to stand against this part of our society, it’s far bigger than watching a kids cartoon, but if that’s the first step? go for it.

Of corse that whole spiel is quite fanciful and I’m not expecting you to suddenly be fighting for progressive society, but if you can at least see the point, then you can understand why some bronies are ‘proud’ to be bronies.
