This guy from Lorax movie is comparable to Flim and Flam in this timeline (normal timeline, they are lesser threats), a greedy ecocide bastard who abuses nature to create a dystopian land.

your current filter.I’d argue that Flim and Flam are not necessarily any eviler in this timeline than they normally are, and that perhaps different circumstances just gave them more opportunity to do things they’d always have been willing to.

They are actually heroes, the only ones who could fight the evil trees in Equestria.
I can see that, though fighting a nemesis isn’t the only way to keep the darkness iwthin in check. Friends can go a long way to helping with that as well.
That’s true, but a greater evil seems to give an opportunity to do good. Even villains join in when the stakes get real high. Being disturbed with how vile the new threat is they can do something right for once. Not only heroes can inspire to be better, it seems.
When you fight a nemesis you become better, you fight your own darkness at the same time. Without one you are left alone with your vices which just stare back at you whenever you try to defy them.
Not really necessary. Just that darkness exists in the heart of everypony. Even Twilight herself has shown the capacity to turn evil. Evil just happens when the darkness within the heart is too strong or left unchecked.
With no bad guys to face you may as well become one yourself… Does this mean evil is necessary in the world?

Well, that beats the theory that Sunset Shimmer razed everything with her army of high schoolers. (Though the idea that given enough time the Alicorn Amulet ultimately makes you all-powerful and omnicidal might have some potential. Also something something Sirens.)

Yeah, and that’s what makes them such a difficult threat to remove. There’s no authority that’s able, or worse, willing (if F&F have the government in their pocket) to do something about it.
Someone should write a fanfic about Fluttershy and Treehugger going full-on eco-terrorists on their enterprise.
They could be doing like real life corporate scum bags do and using legal loopholes, bribery, political connections, and white collar crime tactics to take control.
Outside enemies can be fought, but this isn’t war. Even now, our world’s big corporations pretty much do as they please, their papers in order, often without resorting to bribery. You can hardly put together a resistance force without looking like a group tinfoil nuts.
Oh dang, that would be an interesting idea! Then we’d get to further tie Daring Do’s actions into the history of big/important events in Equstria.
