That’s because they weren’t really villains, mostly just antagonists. Granted, shilling snake oil is highly morally questionable, but it’s not an “Apocalypse How” situation.

Yeah, it’s interesting that he actually got dialogue in the comics, but still hasn’t gotten much direct characterization in the show.
That says, it does give him an interesting contrast between the other big-bads if he’s not a smug monologuer who won’t bother giving you the details of his master plan: he’s just a genre-savvy overlord who will kill you outright if you stand in his way.
Without friends, Smooze was a lot more dangerous than expected.

That’s what I thought it would be. I was expecting her to turn around and see a desolate statue of herself half buried ala Planet of the Apes. Too bad.
If that had been the universe brought on by Starlight’s victory at the beginning of S5, that would be a hell of a kick for her.
… Wait what if Celestia turns evil in S6/7?/The movie and the last future was the result of like uncontrolled solar radiation just frying everything.

I like the total war thing they got going on but I prefer the changelings as the villains much more. The changeling resistance angle is pretty cool but I like the full out war better. So it’s a toss up between the Chrysalis and Sombra time line for me, better villains vs better story…
This episode was amazing.
