At least you have a desire for someone to hold. Someone to appreciate. Someone give your love to. I’ve never felt that. It makes me feel weird. But the bigger thing is that, given how I am right now, I should be feeling lonely. At least I think I should. Don’t know, never truly felt that feeling. Sometimes, I can’t feel. God damn, am I weird?

You’re lucky. You’ve felt an attraction towards someone. I’ve never had that. Hell, I’ve never changed as a person ever since I was young, never felt any kind of sexual mindset change through puberty, and I never even had a wet dream. I don’t even get aroused by much. I wonder if my Ausperger’s has anything to do with it, but my mother always says that it doesn’t effect that. I don’t know. I don’t even really get lonely. Some nights I stay up and think to myself “I think I should be feeling lonely right now”, but I never really do. How ’bout you?

@C Money
One of the few dates I’ve been on started going that direction when we went to the telescope observation deck and her interest in Saturn was only passing, rather than her unable to peel her eyes away from the telescope like moi.

It full-on turned that way when she said some things I’d mentioned about black holes went over her head, and was content to not know as opposed to curious to find out and eager to make sense of it.

The painful thing is that every social sensibility I have screams at me to never mention those things again - “those are not things one talks about on a date” I think to myself, and I’m sure many people would say the same.

But what could be more stupid than putting on a pretense of being someone you’re not when the very purpose of dating is to find someone compatible with yourself? Then if you’re successful - grats, you got someone who likes who you’re pretending to be, not someone who likes you.

Now that argument can be terribly mis-applied to some things - often people just need to change themselves if they’d invoke that - but you know what? Being an astrophysicist is okay, and I think nature, the universe, science - finding great beauty, love, and passion in them is a good thing. Lots of interests aren’t, but that’s a good one to have, I think, so I’m sticking with it.

But anyways, first time I’ve dropped any “cuss” word on this site, but damn it can be lonely to have such a passion and love - to see such beauty, majesty, magnificence and be in such awe - and not have anyone else be the same way.

You know, a lot of other things, I’m willing to compromise on - half of a good relationship is being willing to sacrifice some things for your love of your significant other - so most things don’t matter that much…

But if she can’t see that beauty, or hold that awe at those distant worlds that can captivate, or the thrilling wonder and majesty of the accretion disk around a spinning supermassive black hole - if she can’t share that with me, then I will forever be alone and alienated from her in a way that would be extremely difficult for anything to ever make up for.

I’m not even bragging; I’m somewhat prodigal. But so what? It’s a little endearing, sometimes, but generally it’s just alienating, and there are few people that see things the way I do, and far fewer still who see most of what I see, and someone who sees all that I do and sees it all the same way I do is going to be as rare as a unicorn IRL: like bigfoot or some mythical creature some claim to have seen but whose existence is questionable.

I purposely stayed behind somewhat when I could’ve gone ahead in education just because I knew social skills would be important to a fulfilling life - I’m very glad I at least had that much wisdom. If I hadn’t, I could’ve been much worse off, as perhaps many savants much smarter than myself are… But still. God knows I try.

Cars? I never much understood the fascination, myself. Sometimes I’m in absolute awe of the technological civilization we live in - just think of how complicated everything, all around you is. Laptops, cars, lamps, house insulation and wiring and plumbing, powerplants that provide electricity through powerlines to that wiring in your house, the factories that built everything in your house… All this civilization is such an amazing marvel. Our world works like amazingly intricate clockwork, and I’m somewhat in awe.

In that regard, the fact that most people own cars sometimes amazes me. Civilization itself is a finer watch than any to have ever been built.

But when it comes to appreciating the car’s own merits… My saying goes like this;
If it doesn’t fly, I’m usually not interested.
If it doesn’t go supersonic, I’m usually not impressed.
But if it can make Earth Orbit - then you’ve got my attention.

0-60 in 3 seconds is fine, but how about averaging 0-60 in 2 seconds for 8 minutes and 19 seconds straight, with two peaks up around 0-60 in 1 second? Overall, that’s developing 100x the energy per gram as a high velocity rifle bullet - all for a machine that amasses 129 tons with payload. Now that’s got my attention! 90 minutes to circle the Earth. 17,500 mph, 5 miles per second, 27,000 feet per second, 7,840 meters per second. Earth’s gravity is still 94% of its surface strength, up at 100 miles (528,000 feet), but you’re going so fast sideways that you “miss” the Earth, and are thus weightless in free-fall along with the craft and everything else inside of it - that’s what an orbit is. The amount of power and energy is unfathomable, stretching the limits of human comprehension with speed, and the view from up there stretches our limits of comprehension of scale when entire continents fall under your gaze. Now this is something I can love…

I mean that she’d most likely date someone that was like her previous self or someone that is “different from her interests”.

Believe me, I’d try to date or two just to see if I would be able to even get one at all. I’m pretty nerdy my self, but I think that my internet in cars might turn our date into taking-a-friend-to-a-nice-dinner. It is this reason that I would go for Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash. RD, who would take interest in the outdoor activities that partake in; and Fluttershy, who would fear me at first because of my very appearance… But I’d try to get her by either showing how kind and helpful I am, or by defending her from an animal that has a Drive to kill her. Show her a little reminder of “not everything in nature can be helped”.

Pre-season 1 Twilight? Perhaps.

But I’m pretty sure the whole point of season 1 was “You need to get your muzzle out of those dusty ol’ books and your studies and enrich your life with something else, like friends.”

Now being the “Princess of Friendship,” I think she may have taken the lesson to heart.

Nonono, I mean you involve yourself in fun. The type of person that Twilight would most likely date is her polar opposite, or an example of her younger self. The example being that you act exactly the way she did when she was younger, age not actually meaning anything. If you only involved your hours of the day towards research and science, then you just might have a chance. Think of it this way: Have you ever seen the episode of The Big Bang Theory where there was a girl that tried to direct Sheldon only to his work and not his extracurricular activities? You would have to be like that girl to be able to even date Twilight Sparkle.

Son, lemme tell you what.

Today I’ve been using much of my free time to read “Paradoxes in the theory of relativity.” I’m writing what’s shaping up to be a 20+ page research paper on “The Plausibility of Artificially-Induced Space-Like Trajectories,” a fancy technical way of saying “How realistic are Warp Drives?”

The first few sections review Special and General Relativity (GR). I’ve had one class that briefly overviewed Special Relativity (SR). You’re not supposed to be smart enough to know about GR until you’re a grad student. I’ve read through two textbooks on GR for fun in my spare time, worked through one of them, and am currently in a research group modelling General Relativistic Magnetohydrodynamics using a wavelet-based approach to make such simulations more efficient on next-generation supercomputers.

Referring back to that paper I’m writing; take a look at some of what this involves.

Yeah, I played games a lot when I was younger, and I’m wasting a lot of time on Derpibooru right now, but I’m also writing that paper, doing that research, and I’ve gone weeks before without as much as touching a video game more recently.

I could lecture for hours on SR, GR, cosmology, existentialism, philosophical zombies, qualia, the Chinese Room argument, aerospace engineering and propulsion systems and mission architectures, astrophysics, various theories on psychology and their relations to neurology (particularly fascinating is how you can tie the Id, Ego, and Super-Ego back to the limbic system and prefrontal cortex…), etc. etc.

Would I make it with Twilight?
Noone can say. That’s up to her to decide.

Do I have a good shot?
You darn well bet I do :p

Ah! You’ve played games at all! Would you make it with Twilight?
full
Twilight Sparkle is an Egghead, not a nerd. Nerds are mostly involved with video games and fun, cool things. Twilight would rather be in a room filled with books to read… Or sleep on.

Play them? I don’t just play them, I modded them, too.

Darn! All those beautiful pictures are gone! D: Ohwell. A good number are on my Deviantart.

Darn, I was so flippin’ ambitious back then… Well, I had time for it. Too bad it kinda fell through… I did make a good number of assets, though. Just, at the time, I didn’t understand the importance of friendship hiring on other people to help with various jobs, and I eventually felt too overwhelmed to keep going… Tsk tsk. What I wouldn’t do to have that kind of free time again.

That’s to say nothing of my dabbling in modding for Fleet Command, Sub Command, Battlefield 2, Warcraft 3, Starcraft… Note that you have to have played a game quite a bit before you start modding it. Also note that almost half of those are sims, and that list doesn’t include other sims I love like Destroyer Command, Silent Hunter II and IV, IL-2 Sturmovik…

I even tried to mod Halo 3 a little. It was a bit too tough for me to crack as my younger self, though, being a trick with flash drives, consoles, hex editing and all that. Played up to 4, just didn’t buy an Xbox One.

Oh, and my favorite game ever is probably Battlezone, I freakin’ loved driving around on the moon and various planets when I was a little 4 to 6-year old tyke. Even built a little model solar system, in large part because of seeing the planets in that game’s menu - the N64 version. Made me realize that these worlds I loved to learn about so much were actually little orbs and I could build a little model of them! :D

Oooh boy. Good memories. Now I need to unpack this little Apollo CSM and LEM model thing I bought yesterday, and maybe get some planet-painted marbles or something to adorn my desk as well. That’d be awesome, get them all to scale with eachother…

Only problem is, if I wanted to do that and then get a sun to scale with them, it’d be more than a meter across, and a supermassive black hole to scale would be like half a mile across or so XP

Oh, and this is legitimately how I dress. :p
I mean, seriously. The only difference is my shirt is blue.

The shirtpocket is absolutely invaluable for holding pens, pencils, notecards, and the daily planner…

If you wanted shipping, maybe Twilight’s hooves over Sunset’s shoulders would’ve been better, but from here it looks kinda like Twi is trying to keep Sunset from closing in xp

You know what’s funny is canonically they’re all just friends, and statistically the vast majority of people are straight, so imagine how awkward it’d be if they saw how much their fandom ships them xp

You are my Sunset,
My only Sunset.
You make me happy,
When days are grey.
No matter how bad,
In the end you make me glad.
Please don’t take my end of day away.
