This is quite important in characters study for this fictional characters and a way to understand their motivation. Thanks to MarbleMac, we know for example that Big Mac prefer very silent hard working mares over talkative and intellectual ones like Cheerilee or mares that strive to be more sociable instead embracing their inner peace like Fluttershy.  
Fluttershy on the other hand, while being shy, has a spot for funny energetic guys and secret side of her that enjoy excitment and unpredictability, she want to try stuff she didn’t before (singing, scaring ponies). Discord is clearly annoyed by serious or pedantic ponies who are suppose to be praised in high regard by society like Twilight or Celestia.
 
The more ship get teased, the more we know about characters.

Starlight and Twilight have clear proffesional student/teacher and platonic friendship. The one that is more closer and with emotional bond is between her and Sunburst. And it’s same form as between Fluttershy and Discord.

Fluttermac and flutterbulk was never meant to be. It was clear she will end up with Discord after Keep calm and flutter on.

The crossdressing? There are lots of straight transvestites, and anyway he had a plot-based reason for it.  
I don’t take a firm position on the matter, but you’re going to have a hard time coming up with any canon “evidence” even as strong as a blush and smile while looking at a mare.
