I myself didn’t get into MLP for the cuteness; I actually started feeling after a while that it was kinda disrespectful to the characters for bronies to just reduce them to “cuteness objects”. (Not to mention it might lead into/relate to… unsavory stuff).
In this case it lets me look past the “cuteness” of Fosgitt’s artstyle and just focus on his terrible unrealistic horse anatomy.
And if my calculations are correct: because this comic deals with Pinkie Pie, cakes, and Celestia; the cuteness should go Through The Roof!
and even with that, there are inconditional Fosgitt´s fans, who will defend him, not matter how dang ugly he draws pony anatomy, because “they look so darn cute” :b
the thing is, I think nobody really hates his art, but you have to accept that he makes mistakes.
very rarely, thank god.
The show’s pretty good at sticking to quadruped anatomy. As pointed out repeatedly Fosgitt is very guilty of posing them like humans.
Eh, fine by me.
Is my head canon at the nightmare entity left certain qualities in Luna’s genetics. It’s the reason why she was able to look like Nightmare Moon in season 2, it’s why farm animals near Canterlot I have a tendency to disappear forever.
Agree. That was sarcasm. :3
And here I thought all that talk about Nightmare Moon gobbling ponies up was just to scare the foals.
Moonbutt is hardcore, yo.
I don’t really see how the show’s art style is anymore “realistic” really. (Just look at a real pony.)
I even remember one G1 MLP fan complained the G4 style makes them look like “mice” more then ponies. Even I wasn’t to keen on the new style at first, but then it grew on me. So it’s not “perfect” either. (And the show has made animation mistakes too, there’s videos of ‘em all over Youtube.)
Also, frankly, I don’t think Jay’s art is that bad. It’s kinda cute, and I like how it’s a bit different.
Background things should affect canon, though, as they’re still things that exist as part of the setting. The anime character thing implies that Fluttershy knows about the existence of ponies that look like that, fictional or not (unless she made them up herself).
And your point is? Do you agree or disagree?
Correct. If a random turkey in the background means some ponies eat meat, then a cardboard bust of Bulma means Flutter is an otaku who randomly says honorifics and smells of BO. Random background fixtures that don’t affect the story whatsoever must be important canonical facets. XD
I could believe that Luna’s an omnivore because of the nightmare entity, but the others are definite herbivores.
There were no alicorns in that episode.
Thus, based on this picture, we can deduce that alicorns are ravenous omnivores!
“Both our diets, I should mention
Are completely vegetarian
We all eat hay and oats
Why be at each other’s throat?”
Over the Barrel
So, I suppose, this thing with meat (and ONLY this) could be considered as non-canonical.
I don’t know how your comment is supposed to refute my claim that the entire generation has more than one artist.
Except here it’s literally just artist and colorist.
I think it’s a combination of (a) having a style which takes more liberties with character design than anyone else working on the comic (Andy Price is almost as extreme in another direction, and when the comic started out I remember reading quite a bit of complaining about his art style too), and (b) having more of a tendency to draw ponies in human-like poses and otherwise get details of the setting wrong. If it weren’t for the latter tendency, I suspect most fans would accept the former, just as almost no one complains about Andy Price’s art anymore.
