She has access to mirrors and is thus accustomed to greater levels of cuteness.
The only times he has actually expressed any abandonment issues (Owl’s Well That Ends Well and The Crystal Empire, Part 2), she comforted him, said she loves him, and said that she’d never leave him.
Honestly, people attack Twilight for the most ridiculous things sometimes.
All she said was that she didn’t match what she was dreaming about :D
Doesn’t mean the dream was real.
We don’t know the context. Maybe he just downplayed it after he realised what he just said? Maybe he used to call her that when he was a hatchling and she told him not to? Without more info this is not obvious guess.
He didn’t call her mom. He was dreaming of his mother, then woke up and saw Twilight.
And Twilight, being the pony she is, didn’t give a crap about him even when his abandonment issues were literally shoved right in her face.
His first instinct was to call her “Mommy” though, so there’s some deep reliance there, even if it isn’t the traditional “mother” role.
