Harris is also expanding her leads in the polls. So, even if her “honeymoon” ends soon, it’ll take a lot for her numbers to regress.

If Trump chickens out of the debate, and Harris gets a prime time spot to sell her candidacy, it’s over.

So it looks like the chuds on Xitter are seizing on him making sure that school bathrooms of both genders are stocked with tampons as their line of attack, trying to tie it into the anti-trans culture war (which I might remind folks isn’t selling very well as a top issue outside of the online far-right). As such, they’re making #TamponTim trending.

Oh yeah, I have no doubt that so long as Harris and Walz keep on keeping on, Trump is cooked. My main concern now turns to what happens if Republican-controlled legislatures in the states she wins declare the results fraudulent and refuse to certify the results? It sounds like Stop the Steal 2 is going to be much better organized than the first one.

Kinda surprised she didn’t go with Shapiro. Pennsylvania is a critical state, and earning brownie points with the neighboring swing states would be a boon.

On the other hand the more I learn about Walz the more he just seems like a fundamentally un-hateable guy. Harris is already grabbing support from sitting Republican governor and stuff, Walz being a vet will just make more come to her side/make it harder to not support.

And hopefully our government will be more than ready for it, unlike Jan 20th. I pray this time the politicians who try to overthrow our government get actual punishment, both to keep them out of our government and as a warning for those who try to overthrow democracy in the future.

Thinking it over, there’s another unstated benefit to a Harris win.

We can end this cycle of perpetual campaigning and political aggrandizing.

Like, you probably noticed that as soon as Biden was sworn in we were already in “Midterm season”. 2 years out and there were already focus on candidates for Congress. Then as soon as the midterms ended, Trump and Biden both declared their re-election campaigns. So we were already having focus on another election 2 years out.

All of course because of the unspoken maxim of starting early for a good lead. But here comes Harris, and she has an honest to God shot at the presidency with only 4 months of campaigning (TBF, she is leapfrogging off of Biden’s last 1.5 years of campaigning). And as far as I’m being lead to believe, 4 months is also the average campaign length for British elections, proving it can be done.

So yeah, among other things a Harris victory is a signal that we can in fact take a break in between elections.

If you want to talk about men being permitted to compete in women’s sports, then make your case, but don’t demand that others respond to your straw man argument.

Nate Silver is still salty about his (admittedly sort of bullshit) axing from 538.

He mused on Twitter that 538 suspended the Favored graph and hadn’t reinstated it because “Harris was actually doing worse than Biden” and they were waiting until she was doing better to post it.

This is, of course, false, but Nate proceeded to waffle on it by qualifying it was “just a theory” and that no actual evidence supported it.

I didn’t say men should be in women’s sports, or that anyone was arguing they should be.

My point was just that, on a spectrum from “the existence of tall people is unfair to short basketballers” to “women who can’t make it in co-ed just shouldn’t play sports” (or, if the gender thing is too easily misunderstood, “let’s eliminate all weight classes in boxing”), almost everyone falls somewhere in the middle.

People have different views on when a physiological difference becomes an unfair advantage.

It should be stated that Minnesota is also doing great. Low unemployment, low crime, high labor participation, above medium income, etc.

Trump and Co can’t really point to anything there that will stick.

My view is that sports is stupid and caring about them this much is dumb.

It doesn’t make sense to have all these splits by weight or height or gender or testosterone levels or whatever the hell. Just pit the best against the best.

“But that’s unfair to-” So what? Pick a different career like everyone else does. I’m colour blind, don’t see me demanding Hasbro set up a separate Simon league for the colour impaired so I can dedicate my life to professional Simon Says matches.

That’s certainly a consistent position, and I respect that. I was just pointing out that, in the context of “women’s sports” being a thing that exists, dismissing people’s concerns over physiological advantages with “tall people are better at basketball” isn’t a very solid counterargument.
