From the debut album by the cult English Psychedelic/Experimental rock musician Ramases, “Space Hymns” (1971)
Born as Kimberley Barrington Frost in Sheffield, South Yorkshire circa 1934 to musical parents, Barrington began as a PT Instructor for the RAF. After his service, he married a woman named Dorothy. She worked as a waitress while he worked by day as an HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and Air Conditioning) installer and as a jazz singer by night. He claimed that one day, during a drive to visit a client in 1968, he received a vision from the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ramases, informing him he was Ramases’ reincarnation, and had encouraged him to spread the pharaoh’s message in the form of a musical career.
As an eccentric individual, he began shaving his head and wearing robes, living in a Roman-style house with Dorothy. After a few failed singles, he signed to Vertigo Records and began recording his debut with his wife album at Strawberry Studios in Stockport (Greater Manchester), which was the house recording studio of future 10cc band members Eric Stuart, Lol Creme, Kevin Godley and Graham Gouldman. The quartet played on his album, and Roger Dean (famous for his album covers for bands such as Yes, Uriah Heep et al.) designed the cover. The album, as the title suggests, has a sort of Science Fiction/Space theme to it, with elements of Occult.
After one more album as Ramases and a failed attempt at a third album, Frost would unfortunately fade into obscurity. Despondent over his troubles, he unfortunately committed suicide in 1976 at the age of 42.
This is very period stuff, very hippie-ish, but fascinating nonetheless. A Worthwile listen and underground favourite for collectors and listeners of worldwide psychedelic music.
