From the English (From Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear) 60s Beat/Blues rock band’s 1977 reunion album,“Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted”.

This album was a reunion of the original lineup of the band (of “House Of The Rising Sun” and “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place” fame), featuring Eric Burdon with other original members consisting bassist (and later producer/manager of Jimi Hendrix and Slade) Chas Chandler, guitarist Hilton Valentine, organist/keyboardist Alan Price (the founder of the original band, who went on to front The Alan Price Set) and drummer John Steel. The original lineup had broken up in 1966, prompting Burdon to form the New Animals and embrace the Western U.S. Psychedelic rock scene.

This album is tight as reunion albums get! Very imaginative interpretations of past Folk and Blues recordings by other artists, with a couple of well-sequenced Animals originals thrown in for good measure. The album’s title is a reference to English journalist William Connor’s first column in the Daily Mirror following the ending of WWII: “As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted…”

The group were formed in 1964 and consisted of English Comedians/Poets/Performance artists Roger McGough and John Gorman with English musician/performance artist Mike McGear, AKA Michael McCartney, who is most well-known as the younger brother of ex-Beatle/music giant Paul McCartney. Mike is also an accomplished photographer. This album is very British in general, very Liverpudlian in particular. A bit proto-Monty Python. However, perhaps unlike Python, I’m sure Yanks wouldn’t get this stuff*!

*Though to be fair, this is 1960s/70s British Humour, so it is pretty period and niche. Modern Yanks would be feeling shifty and confused as fuck!
