"Neckbeards vs Legbeards": Or, Social Justice Extremism

It just pisses me off when these people go around and act like they’re morally superior or some shit like that. I’m just hoping that something will happen
@Zennistrad
Oh, Jezebel, I still wonder if you are a click bait site that tries to intentionally stir shit up for revenue and attention or if you have a forced quota for housing every feminist stereotype (minus the actual castration) out there.

I do enjoy your articles that marginalize male victims of rape, human trafficking, prostitution and domestic violence. I enjoyed your dismissal of male body image issues, while simultaneously only ever show male super models when speaking about hot men and in the same breath talk about how objectification of women causes rape. I enjoyed how you claim to support gay rights, but then immediately claim that most homosexual men are misogynistic and sexually assault women and then have the audacity to talk about gay men having “male privilege”, when in truth, straight women are more commonly the ones assaulting and harassing gay men than the other way around.

I enjoyed it all, so, so much.

I enjoyed it all so much, that I left feminism almost immediately when I came into contact with the you; I still regret nothing by having done so.

I actually used to really admire Kotaku for not being like those other shitty “mainstream” game sites like GameSpot or IGN.

Once I discovered Destructoid and the Escapist, however, I realized Kotaku were just shitty for different reasons.

@Itsthinking It really does seem sometimes like only Giantbomb and Destructoid have avoided the push to be ‘all-media inclusive,’ and even then their lords and masters force them to run an article if it’s a big enough flap, like Donglegate. I don’t understand why there’s been this drive for games to ‘be more like hollywood’ since 2005ish, when hollywood has been getting beaten in sales by gaming, and they’ve also been getting more critical acclaim from those that actually participate.

The push for cinematic game experiences probably has something to do with game developers wanting to push the limits of what a “game” can do, and make it more of an “interactive experience.” It’s the same thing you saw with comic books becoming “graphic novels.”

I don’t think this is a bad thing, mind you, the Metal Gear Solid franchise did a fantastic job of making a game both fun to play and cinematic at the same time. A properly-made cinematic cutscene sequence can be really effective in making me excited to play the next part of the game.

So I take a break from for a week and come back to find things have deteriorated on tumblr even further? Everyone and their grandma jumping on the mouthpiece bandwagon. You have got to be kidding me.

For people who want to “better the fandom” they sure are doing a great job in making things a lot more complicated and divided.

Also arguing that hatred is ok because it’s against the right people. (in this case, men)

Or as Dicks says:

“Like it or not, some women have good reason to fear or dislike men as a whole. Those women are not ‘bigots’, they are not lesser or ignorant. They are acting on how society - on how systems put into place and maintained by men - have treated them. They have not been taught by society that men are lesser or inferior - it’s the opposite, we’re taught that men are the default human, and women are “other”. We’re taught to value men over anything else. These feelings of distrusting or even hating men are not born of close-mindedness, they come from rebellion. The reaction to learning about this should not be to hastily try to classify yourself as blameless, or to whine about how it’s not fair - it should be to analyse yourself and your behaviour, to see how you fit into this system. Analyse what you are doing to change things for the better, so that nobody has to hate or fear men anymore.”

So, tl;dr

I had bad experiences and blame it on all men. I hate all men and you shouldn’t dislike me doing so. It’s ok for me to tar and feather an entire group of people and instead of complaining that you don’t like my blanket statement you should concede how right I am and realize that everything I do is blameless cause I’m a poor pitiable victim.

Those aren’t mouthpieces honestly, they aren’t being used to promote an artist’s worldview/political stand point or are demonstrably out of character for them.

Those kind of images are ones that people should encourage, not the ones twisted in malice.

I can understand how one could be mistrusting of a group people due to a negative experience with them however at the same time that doesn’t necessarily make it a rational one and justified.

It’s okay to be angry at your oppressors. MLK actually spoke about how anger was completely necessary to ensure that the civil rights movement accomplished something worthwhile.

The problem is that anger has to be used constructively in order to accomplish anything. If you use your anger to just act like an asshole to everyone, you’re not going to change anything, you’re just going to piss people off.

“Now there is a final reason I think that Jesus says, “Love your enemies.” It is this: that love has within it a redemptive power. And there is a power there that eventually transforms individuals. Just keep being friendly to that person. Just keep loving them, and they can’t stand it too long. Oh, they react in many ways in the beginning. They react with guilt feelings, and sometimes they’ll hate you a little more at that transition period, but just keep loving them. And by the power of your love they will break down under the load. That’s love, you see. It is redemptive, and this is why Jesus says love. There’s something about love that builds up and is creative. There is something about hate that tears down and is destructive. So love your enemies. (from “Loving Your Enemies”)”

“People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”

“As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation – either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

“Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.”
