Now that we’re talking about speculations, do you think that Discord may be involved in the Cutie Mark Switcheroo/Alicorn incident? He has the power, and now that he’s on Lestia’s side they may be doing a secret test of character on Twilight, to see if she can handle the situation and her alicorn powers. Something like that.

Discord has been biding his time to turn Fluttershy to his side as his willing apprentice, Luna will become Nightmare Moon because the Mane Six has been going on the adventures that she wanted, Chrysalis has replaced Cadance and taken over the Crystal Empire and it’s emotion powered crystals, and, worst of all, Hasbro has sacked DHX and gone back to the people that made Gen 3.5

I don’t mind crossover shipping myself, but I hold it to the same standards as any other shipping. Namely that it has to make SOME kind of sense and be presented in a believable way. There really aren’t too many concepts that are so inherently bad they can’t be salvaged or interesting if done competently and crossover shipping is no exception.
The problem of course being that many of these are never going to reach that standard. ModreTwi for instance is never going to pass that test the personalities clash horribly, they have nothing in common, and indeed by most indications would probably quite dislike each other. Dan/Pinkie is also never going to pass that test for the same reasons. (although I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone seriously ship them)
Sonic/Dash though… objectively that could actually work with the right writer. That might get be crucified, but if you think about Dash often get’s paired with character of similar ego level to herself in fanfic already. The problem of course being that the mutual hate between fandoms is so intense that reason and logic have long ago fled the building, and the mere possibility is denied mostly out of pure zelatoy and disgust.

Well, if that means Chrysalis gets an upgrade to be as crazyevil as Nerissa, then I’m down with it even if we get endless shopping episodes, because that’d be pretty badass. (They did mention not using her for awhile, so appearing in the spinoff is completely plausible)
On that note, if we ever get forced into a shopping episode, then I hope the staff has watched Spice & Wolf, and it gets stupidly educational instead of pandering to little girls’ fashions exclusively. Imagine Rarity teaching Sweetie and Spike about how to price and trade for gemstones and then she gives them more than enough bits and then some as a secret character test. They wander off, meet the other two CMC, and then each has to stop one of the others from wasting the bits on something useless.

Feels strange how fast things change. 2009 was just four years ago. Of course, in February 2009 the G4 had been pitched already and some animation tests had been done (I’m sure), and the S1 was probably scripted in some ways already.
