So apparently Maplestory released an arc awhile ago which is basically similar to MLP FiM’s Equestria Girls series.

Basically your character travels to an alternate universe that has alternate universe versions of your familiar Maple characters living ordinary high school lives, but in a HIGH SCHOOL setting with high school plots. At the same time, your character has to do quest that includes fighting off monsters that invade from the Mapleworld. The final chapter of the arc is even a musical talent contest much like the plot of Rainbow Rocks

In that it’s a magical world, but with far more adventure, and more varied and crazy world environments, with all manner of tech advancements both modern and futuristic.
 
But god, that sounds like they’re running out of ideas.

Between Medic’s responses to any Merasmus event and the events of the latest TF2 comic I can’t get this image out of my head of Medic delving into the dark arts and recording his findings in a “Tome of Eldritch Lore” made from the skin, organs, etc. of either the corpses of his enemies, his allies pre-respawn, and/or any bodies Miss Pauling needs to get rid of in a pinch.
 
I could even see the whole ordeal recorded as a series of journal entries recorded from the Medic’s perspective, but he’s always totally casual about it even though some of the things he describes doing are pretty horrific. Like the things he’s doing and learning can’t drive him insane because he already is insane.

Maple World mind as well be Equestria.  
They are very similar.  
A fantasy world ranging from a medieval setting to pseudo-modern ones. Just like MLP.
 
In this story arc, it involves friendship. Especially interacting and befriending the alternate universe Cygnus Knight instructors. Of course the genki girl Oz(who can be like the Pinkie Pie of their world), who is the Blaze Wizard in the Maple World, gets to play the drums. And Cygnus is the principal of the school(totally Celestia), with Neinheart as the vice-principal.
 
At the end of the musical band battle, the rival band’s leader turns into some monster your character has to kill.  
After bidding farewell to you friends, your character goes back to the Maple World through a portal in a closet(Narnia reference) that connects one bedroom in the High School World to a parallel bedroom in the Maple World, turning in the quest to a NPC nearby.
 
Henesys mind as well be Ponyville, as it seems to be a central setting in the game. Not to mention the town’s theme is similar to that of Ponyville being a rural farm town.
