The issue I have here is the “few seasons” part. There’s a very high chance that season six is going to be the end of the road with the movie as the climax, given how much focus they’ve been making on wrapping up all old subplots lately (They gave the CMC their cutie marks, they’ve given rarity a shop in canterlot, fulfilling her dream, and Dash is all but in the wonderbolts proper).
I think they may be preparing for the end, and as such unless they already had plans for LD’s return there’s not much time left.
If it happened to Gilda, it can happen to LD. Hell, Braeburn and Cherry Jubilee came back with voice roles after a few seasons.
