The universe can handle human ponidoxes, it seems. In most fandoms it can also handle people meeting themselves from a different time frame, such as the aforementioned BTTF scene, and the one in Doctor Who where the Brigadier came into contact with his 7-years different self (although that did release enough energy to knock both of them out, give them both total amnesia of the event, and kill 7 immortal beings.
