And several dozen movie references in the first Nightmare Night, yes, that was the joke, thank you for ignoring it.
Rainbow Dash is laughing and Fluttershy is breathing through a paper bag.

There was an Ermac reference on S2 Ep4, and another movie reference when the CMC went bowling.
The show was so much better back in season 1 and 2, where none of the ponies, especially on nightmare night, were references to things.
