Mentioned that you are only familiar with the “Classic Version” already implies that you are talking about the one that started the franchise. So the second part of your comment is redundant.
 
Also go play the rest of the Megaman series. They are great and some would argue that a few of them are even better than the Classic series. Except Megaman X 7. We don’t talk about Megaman X 7.

Sadly, the only Mega Man I’m familiar with is the “Classic” version. The series that started the franchise.

Fixing the beggining because I messed up.

On it’s own it’s not a bad game, but comming from Starforce it’s infuriating. Like the story dosen’t matter (this after the first game where the story was one of the best elements of the game), the dungeons are poorly designed (you haven’t experience a poor dungeon until you tried the lake dungeon), the encounter rate is ridiculous (sometimes you can’t walk 2 steps without getting into one), to much backtracking, the charachters are annoying and flanderized to the max, most bosses aren’t fun, pacing is terrible, the game is so bad that it killed the Starforce series (and probably helped to kill mega man).
 
After I finished the game I found this let’s play (http://lparchive.org/Mega-Man-Star-Force-2-Zerker-x-Saurian/), and the guy explains much better than I could, why this game is so bad, give it a read so you don’t need to play. the first one on the other hand is really cool and the third one is awesome, so give those a chance.

For that matter, it’s brought up surprisingly few times in the actual story. Yeah, HUB.bat comes up now and then as an excuse for a new superpower, but other than that everyone is really casual about the whole “human soul uploading” thing.
