Considering the origin of the term Bit, I imagine an exchange rate of $0.25 USD to the 1.00 Equestrian Bit (EQB). Thus a pricetag of 400 EQB for a dress makes sense as it would equal 100 USD.

Well in Putting Your Hoof Down they showed that 3 tomatoes were 2 bits and a cherry was 5 bits or something. The pony economy is weird given that there’s a lot of bartering and gems can be interchanged with bits, despite the fact that you can dig them out of the ground and their value is arbitrarily assigned.
