I’m also realising something that probably don’t help. it may have been a more towards boys but it was still my Little pony
There’s still a limit. Also most likely the stories didn’t allow it to be placed anywhere
Edited
Perhaps, but the show has been known to have some rather silly moments, and classic Looney Tunes-esc humor.
I actually remember some people being upset that trixie’s rocket never appeared in the show. That probably would have been a bit too silly if it did
Yeah, not to mention, some characters didn’t even get toys ’till much later, and some still never got any.
People happened saying it’s just a toy commercial for years regardless.there’s actually a number of things people said was a toy plugs but has no toys I’m still waiting for changedling toys
Still, that wasn’t the height of the series’ popularity, and as you said they just didn’t advertise them well.
Of course, if they put them in the show, then fans would go back to complaining about the show “being a toy commercial” again… (Even though, it kinda always was anyway.) I still find it odd, ex-fans still accuse the show of that, as the show has hardly advertised any toy tie-ins sense “Rainbow Rocks,” and even that was rather subtle.
It was 4 years ago
Or maybe it just came out too late in the series.
it probably didn’t last long because they never advertised it in the show. I think it was just one comic
actually got the cheese sandwich toy from a Poundland(for £5)
Kinda, but that “Defenders of Harmony” line didn’t last long.
Well looks like she kind of got her wish
Although I think the toyline were more gender neutral
Yeah, she wanted to make Ponies for boys too, I guess Hasbro didn’t think they’d sell well with boys, but boys like horses too, so it seems odd to limit their market that way.
In fact, other “girl toys” like Cabbage Patch Kids were originally marketed to both boys, and girls, but then became “girl-only” over time.
I have nothing against having toys marketed only to one gender, but regardless some do tend to break past the gender barrier. As a kid I knew girls whom liked Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and such.
Considering that she originally had the family demographics in mind when she came up with the toys. Not just the girls. I hear Hasbro were the ones that were largely responsible for attaching the “girly” reputation to the MLP franchise and consequently all other colourful horse brands.
Horses and pegasi were traditionally masculine symbols. Unicorns were an exception.
she was working for hasbro at the time and got payed monthly selery.
The whole “selling the patent” was a leagal technicality.
It was not making the money back then.
She was leaving the company so as their employee, she simply sold the patent away for a dollar.
40th minute of the MLP Creators’ Panel.
Look it up if you don’t believe me.
You mean for a literal dollar? She sold the rights to a franchise worth many millions for a dollar!?
Absolutely not.
She sold the IP to Hasbro for a dollar before moving on to work elsewhere back in the 80s.
She even joked about it during the panel.
“What was your reaction when you found out about ‘this’?”
“Damn…”
Well yeah she’s cool with it, we helped make her franchise into a worldwide phenomenon. I’m sure she’s rollin’ in money, too.
