I’d say that moral works. I just wonder why in the comics Rarity is so often shown as a shallow stallion-chaser with next to no personality beyond that. Though I imagine fans of the rest of the characters could show me multiple examples where IDW reduced ‘their’ pony to a caricature.
But isn’t the moral of SFS that Rarity’s original designs were correct all along and that her friends should take her gifts without being overly critical? That her vision was better than their’s because dresses are her area of expertise?
Here she wants everything her way (for fame reasons), and Applejack’s relatives hired her because they wanted a fancy wedding, which is what she tries to do (a bit too hard) and in the end she lets the Cakes do the food their way and she does the dress her way and it works. The moral is to let the experts in each craft do their thing.
Isn’t it rather common for Comics-Rarity to be depicted as a near total opposite in personality of Cartoon-Rarity?
Well, those are the episodes where Rarity prioritizes her life situation over her friendships.
Of course.
@Somber Star
Maybe, maybe not.
I think he meant ‘Sweet and Elite’ or ‘Rarity Takes Manehattan’. I’m pretty sure a lot of the fans who retain the capacity to hate Mane 6 characters are also the ones who mix up what happens in past episodes.
The comic’s the exact opposite of Suited For Success though. In SFS Rarity pushed away her own desires, expertise and better judgment in order to give her friends what they wanted and make them happy. In this comic, she does exactly the opposite. She downplays everyone else’s knowledge and desires and expertise to do what she wants the way she thinks it should be done. Exactly the opposite.
That’s why a lot of people didn’t like the issue. They didn’t come out of it hating on Rarity, they came out hating the writing and IDW’s handling of Rarity’s character. Exactly because she behaved exactly the opposite of her show counterpart.
It’s gotten that much hate? Geez, I found the comic to be alright. Nothing great or spectacular and one of the weaker friends forever issues, but nothing to really get angry over. Kind of a pleased ‘meh’. Better than just a meh, but almost good.
While it is similar, it’s just nice to see the Cakes given any sort of role in a story….even if they’re pushed to the side for quite a bit.
Oh, she hadn’t? Because, I’ve seen a LOT of people hating on the comic. Mostly because it’s the comic version of “Suited for Success”.
Care to explain? I’m curious.
