When someone says lets go off the beaten path, it is skepticism and traditionalism that can help keep you from ending up lost in the swamp. Sometimes an inventive idea is not always a good idea.

Tradition are things you do because of past events. For example, the tradition of dressing up for Halloween is thought to be because of people being afraid of ghosts and spirits, thinking that if they dressed up to look scary, the spirits would go away.
 
With the topic of tradition being the past, it might be referencing the saying that “If you don’t listen to your past, it will repeat.”

Curiosity and being skeptical go hand to hand. If your mind is too open you will find the wrong answers to things, but if you are too skeptical you won’t learn anything. Be skeptical of everything at first, but when you find nothing against what you are analyzing, and everything for it, you should drop your guard a bit. You should also see if other people are skeptical as well, and see why they are skeptic. if their reasons are biased, you should be skeptical of the skepticism. If their reasons are unbiased, you should take a closer look.
