If you’re going to talk about the relative “performance” of the ponies, how about graph that is normalized to one of the ponies? That should make it pretty easy to see who’s gaining in this horse race.

I dunno, man, I feel that if your main argument is going to be telling someone that they’re trying too hard, then I think you might just be trying to save face here. I mean, you’ll go ahead and at least admit that you’re having double standards here (even if you tiptoe around it) but you can’t just go looking bad on your own, so you have to try to drag someone down to your level.

Perhaps if you listened, champ, you wouldn’t assume I’m walking on my own toes. I said I enjoyed the character itself. Yes, she’s as 2D as the Jack of Apples herself, but at least she was freakin’ fun.

My point here is that the background ponies - all of them - are all one trick ponies themselves. They got one episode, Slice of Life, and from here onwards they’ll be relegated to being filler in the background once again. They all have one major facet to their character - Vinyl is a DJ, Derpy is the tropey dope, etc. - and they’ll never be explored in anymore depth than that. The canon development we saw in SoL was what we’re going to get, so they’ll be forced to remain one-note characters from hereforth in the offical show’s canon.
 
One episode for all of them, one facet for each of them, and then they’ll just go right back to making the enviroments in Equestria look like they’re more than just a toxic wasteland, which is their purpose to begin with. They are, by definition, one trick ponies who are dead.
 
If you dislike Applejack for that yet turn around and love these characters when they are the exact definition of what you’re disliking AJ for, then there’s little room for you to be anything but a hypocrite here. What is it? Do you dislike Applejack for being one note and lacking development, or do you love the background ponies for being one note and lacking development? You can’t have both. That’s called double standards.
 
Also, I don’t buy the irony thing xD I probably would’ve if you didn’t go on to immediately contradict your statement that you “were just being ironic” by saying that you liked the background ponies right afterwards xD

I was aware of the irony, was having a bit of fun. It’s still interesting that a character who has been given zero developments due to being featured primarily in a single ep is more enjoyable to watch than Applejack. That one trick pony is just dead.
