I won’t say that, it’s more so that we don’t have them really interact with mares or other stallion on the same levels the female bgs do.
Shining, Discord, trouble shoes, Sorain’, and even minimals like Double Diamond has varying levels of expressed personality just like that of the background and secondary mares, but outside Doctor Whooves and Derpy, Shining Cadance, Mac Cheerie, etc, the stallions (Minus Spike, Mac, Discord the most; Shining and Thunderland as the minimal) don’t interact with the cast or other backgrounds and secondaries as much as the ladies.

That applies for Male/Male ships too of course, why the fuck would I care about Breaburn/Soarin when both of them are barely characters in comparison to any of the main 6 or even the Princesses.

Yeah there’s pretty much effectively no reason to ship any straight ship that doesn’t include Discord or Spike, MAYBE characters like Shining Armor (but I actually like his marriage to Cadance so no) Big Mac, Cheese Sandwich and even Flash if you want to stretch it. There’s just not enough characterization to really care about them much, hell with fanon characterized background characters, most of the popular ones with lost of fanon are Female.

It has nothing to do with the numbers, and the gender rate is more equal than that in the show. If there were 3 females versus 687 males, there’d still be a ton of lesbian art of those few females. I’ve seen enough fandoms and franchises to know that.
of course in the few that gay stuff overpowers lesbians stuff is quite something.

To be fair I could make an argument in other places and about other people about the lesbian focus being disingenuous and inappropriate. I won’t here because yeah, 90% females and it makes sense.

@Itsthinking
Half the hate I’ve seen is for the fact that there haven’t been any gay ones yet. Talking about lesbians and stereotypes like the bg pony below. It’s almost like 90% of the established, developed characters on this show are female or something…

I’d hope it was lessened here a bit. This iteration of these two have been a couple in Sundown’s art for awhile.

But I suppose some people can get tired of celebrating this news pretty quick.
