possibly… it’s common knowledge from medieval times and fantasy that supposed magic jewels granted fantastic abilities…
perhaps when taken care of and brought to a more… articulate form, albeit much smaller than they originally were, some power was granted, in the form of augmenting, or immaterial ability… they’re minimally conscious.
I had actually been wondering if any gem shards may have been used in jewelry be it unintentionally or otherwise. Then if this is so would that give said jewelry any unusual properties? What if you mounted them onto a knights armor or something?

And the gems no doubt have silent and fearful respect for the ancient order of human warriors that must have acquired them.
