You had your shot. Now is the age of pone!
>in-cannon changelings
…perhaps that’s one way the changelings could get into, say, Ponyville, Canterlot, Crystal Kingdom etc: Put them in cannons and fire them into such!
…or have them disguise thamselves as the 1970s TV detective character played by actor William Conrad: Cannon.
X3
Then the invasion of zebra lands can truly begin!
@Magic Man Well, it doesn’t help that english isn’t their native language. I can kinna figure that half of that is the artist literally not knowing a better way to put some lines, so it sounds even more overly dramatic than it would otherwise.
@DSF66 And also an absolute pile of shit that we hope are burned eternally once Disney buys them
No.
I’m aware of that.
Well, but he’s not you, is he?
I get that you’re jaded and all from the scenario being overdone in fanfics and such. But you and several other people don’t have to leave multiple paragraph long rants on each comic page. Really. You’ve written more here than I did in total when the Chrysalis Fiendship comic rolled around.
And I was filled with a lot of dang rage back then.
Actually, on the contrary, I’m quite a fan of Vavacung’s work, such as When Villains Win an the Changeling Scout series. A lot of his or her (forgive me, I’m unaware of weather Vavacung is a man or woman) work is charming, funny and sweet. My issue is with THIS particularly comic and the choices being made in regards to its direction.
@PonyPon
The problem with that is that the changelings have not put in any effort to give the ponies any reason or encouragement to meet them halfway. They have launched a military invasion and are to this day infiltrating their society to drain the population without their knowledge or consent. Even if there’s faults on both sides, the majority of that has to fall on the changelings.
And as for your second remark, once again on the contrary, I’m actually a big fan of the changelings and am capable and all in favour of them being developed and portrayed beyond just the “black faction”. What I’m Not in favour of is this comic’s methods in order to achieve that goal. With changelings, there’s a lot of potential to explore the moral ambiguity and complexity that lies with their diet, and if don’t right, can make a great story. However, I’m increasingly beginning to fear that so far this story, like countless others on fimfiction, is gonna throw that out the window in favor of flipping the tables by making the ponies out to be the ones at fault and the changelings as the blameless woobie victims.
I say this because the last two pages have gone out their way to portray changelings as the ones we should feel entirely sorry for, while vilifying ponies are shown as harsh and callous when really all the later are doing is defending themselves against enemy infiltration. If Vavacung intends to show both sides to the matter, that’s fine, but I hope that’s what they actually do: SHOW BOTH SIDES instead of Chrysalis just preaching on her soap box. Show how ponies who have suffered being love drained or had their loved ones replaced by a changeling infiltrator. Because so far, one side is getting treated a lot more sympathetic by this comic.
But you know what, who knows? Maybe I’m wrong, maybe this comic is going to do all that and I’ll be left eating my words. Good. I WANT to be wrong. But I’ve seen so many of these kinds of stories and the direction they have a tendency to go and so I guess they’ve left me pretty jaded.
They really are like Star Wars’ extended universe. Kidnda canon for those who want to dig it but will probably be rendered “official fanfics” if the show episodes would say so. Will prob. meet the same fate as SW’s stuff in fact.
Had you not been so greedy and attempted to enslave all of Ponykind, ponies wouldn’t have grown so hateful of Changelings.
Lul they are :P >>614023
Did they even mention how changelings found out they need to eat good emotion?
When you’re made out of flies and pony bits, that doesn’t exactly strike me as first nature.
The comic messes things up considerably by making a codependent species “pure evil”, though.
How that sort of species would come to exist is baffling.
cough Yeah, on some accounts yes I don’t take some of the issues as canon, but for the most part, yes. I view a majority of the comics as canon. There aren’t any issues that conflict with the show all that much. {And if you bring that up, I’ll point you to some episodes that do the same.}
The only comic I downright hate is that western one.
Actually, I found the Sombra comic to be the best of the bunch. It was nice, sorrowful, sweet, and had an excellent story that tied itself together in its issue without any problems.
The Nightmare Moon one, while having some good points, isn’t as strong. It’s still decent.
The Tirek one was decent too, but again, the ending felt like this was a two parter.
But yeah, Chrysalis is a moron.
Matters not really, the IDW comics aren’t canon so it’s not like it conflicts with it. But yeah, I do sorta remember the Fiendship is Magic one on the Changelings kinda went this route too.
Chrysalis fed on Shining Armor hard enough to beat Celestia. He got a headache from it. Ain’t nopony getting turned into a husk.
And consider how Cadance has been acting in this series to Chrysalis approaching Celestia peacefully and out of her own free will in search of help. Heck, she only brought up the persecution stuff because Cadance is making a total ass of herself. I have absolutely no doubt that ponies would have been adverse to prior peace attempts.
So the husk thing works in every single work instead of Carnifex’s?
OK, so they should meet them half way, and only sacrifice, what, 100 or so ponies a year to be drained into husks for them?
I mean, regardless of what the reality of the situation is in this story, that’s what the ponies think happens. Primarily because of what happened during the invasion and the fact that the changelings have, until this point, made no attempts at negotiation.
I can feel sympathy for their situation, but the notion that we’re supposed to feel the ponies are at fault is simply ridiculous. If there is a way for changelings to feed off ponies without harming them, then the fault for their starvation lies in the fact that they apparently never bothered to notify the ponies of this.
It’s either that or die?
They gotta at least meet them halfway on this.
And yeah, you might wanna cash out of this story now, it kind of requires not painting the changelings as a solidly black faction, and you’ve clearly no ability in that regard.
Outside their towns or not, it’s STILL them drying to drain ponies and within Equestrian borders. Seriously, how in any way is them draining ponies without the latter’s consent okay?
