If I was angered by anything, it would’ve been the fact that Derpy was credited as Muffins. I think they should’ve done the same thing that the toys did - credit her not under a name, but a picture of a muffin.

The eyes they make, though. They quite enjoy that best-friendly activity.

And yet no one is excited that they credited her as Bon Bon in the credits?

At last the name controversy can come to an end (and it even got a hilarious backstory to boot).

Actually, the scenes between Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune were pretty tame, and even in the original, undubbed version they were being coy about their relationship. The Japanese aren’t any more accepting of homosexuality than other cultures; they just have less of a taboo about discussing it. It’s a common trope in manga and anime, for example, to have villains be homosexual (even in children’s anime like Sailor Moon: the villains Zoesite and Kunzite were a blatantly gay couple) as an example of their “perversion”.

Making Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune “ambiguously lesbian” was a way of giving them a sort of “bad girl” cred. After all, for the first part of the season they were in, the Sailor Senshi thought they might be villains.

A waste of biomatter
Everyone think that they weren’t directly implied to be lesbians because of some implausible controversy but I think that’s missing the point. The scene was meant to reference a bunch of head canons including them being both lovers and just friends. Rather than see this as a negative moment where the “truth” was denied I see it as a fun moment where a bunch of fan references was brought to light.

Eh, that was a dub in the 90’s, American dubbing was a fairly new practice and they didn’t quite know what they were doing just yet. Personally I’d give that instance a pass.

In Japan, two female characters in Sailor Moon were a couple. In the US dub, they were changed to cousins to avoid controversy. But none of the SCENES were altered, so you constantly had them feeling each other up and talking about how much they loved each other. It was insane.

Can’t people just interpret what they want and not shove it down anyone else’s throat?

Paranorman had a character reveal he’s homosexual and one of the trailers of Boxtrolls showed homosexual parents of both genders, I don’t remember any uproar from that.

Yes. While I think unnamed in the episode/Muffins in the credits is a good compromise, I would have been okay with calling her Ditzy Doo. But it’s not like we’re just going to throw away Derpy as a name. And I will agree that it’s kind of sad that it’s hard to avoid controversy when it comes to homosexuality in any capacity. I don’t get some people. Also, what show was it that got away with implying incest?

The only thing I truly hate about this episode, is that the biggest fandom things I never liked and could always easily ignore, are gonna be a lot harder now as people will keep pointing to this episode that every little quirk and ‘couple’ is now canon. Sigh.
