First thing: “kek” comes from World of Warcraft. In the game, the two opposing player factions known as the Alliance and the Horde had an artificial language barrier in the form of the game “translating” player chat from the opposing faction into a mostly incomprehensible fantasy language.
One of the things people caught onto was that if a Horde player said “lol”, it would appear to Alliance as “kek”. So, “kek” is synonymous with “lol”

Second thing: Back in 1978, A DC comics themed educational book was published, and it was silly. One of the silly things was Lex Luthor stealing forty cakes, and that being terrible.

Third thing: ‘Keks’ sounds like ‘cakes’.
