If we go by the longer teaser, Derpy f’d up sending the invites so that they were all dated “today” instead of “tomorrow”, so she’s the start of the chain of the situation, and that’s only the start of the episode. I’d consider that “major” enough in how Steven was major.
She hardly has a “major role.”
