Batty. Dear sweet batty. Among others, she always found the free forest as her home, but dared not step out into sunlight lest her pale skin suffer severe sunburn because of the tragic requirement of her species to live. Yes, batty had always had to rely on the blood of other forest dwellers to help metabolize her own food. Otherwise, her own blood may be used for her destructive metabolism. But that was hardly her current worry at the time. Poor Batty had accidentally stayed out too long, and the sun was about to come up. If she didn’t get back to her cave, she’d probably be held up for weeks, nursing her burnt wings, or back, or whatever. Her home was far too distant to reach before said sun came up, and soon she resigned to her fate, trying to stay behind a tree that blocked the unforgiving orb of light.
Fortunately just as the sun peaked up from the horizon, a pony unlike any she’d seen before was passing by at the right moment, and immediately stopped to help. “Th’ sun can’t get ta yas if there be a nice thick layer o’ tatzl belly between you an’ it!” She had exclaimed cheerfully in her west everfree accent before she gently pulled the pony closer with her versatile tongue appendages. It didn’t take long for Batty to put two and two together that this pony intended to store her away in a pouch of sorts until daylight had passed. Batty wasted no time in expressing her heartfelt gratitude before the tatzlpony’s odd three jawed mouth closed up, sealing her in comforting darkness. The two warmed up to each other very quickly, and they’ve been teammates ever since.
