The shadows are very obviously not to proper scale. The one on Rarity isn’t even connected to the edge of her mouth. Probably a joke.

I assumed it was shadows formed by their smiles, or the angle of the sun etc.
I just think it looks pretty funny.

Jesus you goofs. The black marks on their cheeks isn’t part of their smiles,its paint. The same stuff football players use to keep sun glare out of their eyes. Also sort of popular on the beach… sort of.

At least I’m pretty sure it is. Fluttershy doesn’t have it after all.
